| reply to imrf Re: Wireless Oakland - anyone with info?
Got in but I need to put my ham hat on after 25 years and make an antenna. Not enough signal to get through signup.
I did get some questions answered:
Looks like a public IP (not behind NAT). Mine was in 64.31.15.0/23 hostxxx.64-31-15.bignet.net
Hey... I remember Bignet.
An expected browser redirect goes to https (good idea) to:
wirelessoakland.michtel.com (192.168.150.11) Private address space inside their network. |

| The maps I saw of the WAP's only covered the better parts of the city, some WAP's are down and being worked on and more needs to go up. They use 20-25 WAP's pers Sq. Mile. When WiMax adapaters are more common and such, 1 WAP per Sq. mile is needed for WiMax and the system will support WiMax when out. They use utilitiy poles owned by state/county/city like light poles, tornado sirens and DTE Enegery Poles. They have issues if your area has underground utilities and will take more time. They are tring to get businesses to donate roof top space for WAPs to get these areas. I forgot if they said homes too. -- ----------------------------Computer Talk Shop Ownerhttp://computertalkshop.comwww.mvps.org/ecvogel |
