| how to backup and encrypt to CD?
Apart from frequent backups to an external HD onsite, I would also like to safeguard some data stored on a CD or similar media to be kept at a different place. Expected volume is about 10GB and I don't want to do this more frequently than once a month (being only a last safeguard in case the house burns down ) For confidentiality I would like the data to be encrypted though it does not have to withstand the powers of the CIA.
Any suggestions as to the best programs or or easiest precedure for this |

| Thanks Cudni, but does truecrypt allow me to create the hidden folder on the CD? I thought I can only use Truecrypt on a hd? Also, what would be the best CD burner for this purpose - freeware if possible |

| I had actually looked at this prog today at Snapfile but was somewhat discouraged by the user comments there. Seemed quite a few had experienced problems and when surfing to their forum, I wasn't convinced either. Seishin, are you using this program personally? I have noticed you as a prolific poster on this forum, so I value your comments. |

| reply to mouse IMO, while TrueCrypt would be an excellent choice to encrypt 10GB worth of data, burning a 10GB file/container is another matter. You need something that can span that much data over more than one disk. And most free burning programs cannot span burns over more than one disk.
If I was in your shoes, I'd use TrueCrypt and get a portable (pocket sized) hard drive. It will be MUCH faster than optical burning and still very portable. |
