| Suddenly Unavailable?
I'm building a new house in a semi-rural area. Although cable is not available, for the past year or so the Qwest address checker has been saying that I could get 1.5 DSL. We're within 60 days of closing and all of a sudden the Qwest checker is saying service is unavailable.
Just to make things more interesting, I can't find a customer service phone number on the Qwest wen page. I did find a DSL tech support number that reached a very polite but completely clueless tech support.
Any ideas? Has Qwest maxed out the DSLAM in my area? |

| You are asking a lot of what if type questions. If it was available, now it's not, it could be anything from wrong info to filled dslam, to just about anything.
As far as contacting qwest goes, it's the same number that it always has been. Matter of fact, it's one number where you list through prompts for sales, service, etc... 1-800-244-1111 Or, if you click on "Residential" on the main web page, there is a section for customer service. Then it takes you through the what state you are in stuff and so on. Either way, the 244-1111 will get you every where if you listen to it.
As far as worse case scenario and DSL is not available, then I guess you need to look at other options. Maybe VDSL or some other qwest technology is now there and that's why they don't show DSL any longer. Maybe you have to look at wireless broadband as an option. There are plenty of providers offering that now. Then there's always evdo/cellular through verizon, sprint, cingular, etc... Later... Mike.... |

| reply to travelguy If you'd like, you can PM me with your address and I can check it on Monday if I get some time to see what may be causing it. Alot of reps unfortunately don't like to go the extra mile to get someone qual'd for DSL if it looks likely they will.
But for me, I'll pull up internal thing to see if it gets a distance check, or check nearby locations, etc... and see if its feasible you'll get it. Then if it does, I'll fill out a form to escalate to one of our SME's who then forward to the qual group to find out why you don't qual and if its possible or just system error, qual ya for DSL.
But it could be capacity issues. Most likely sounds like a system error unless somehow load coils/bridge taps, etc.. somehow were put on the line.
If your still in NM, VDSL isn't an option. VDSL still only available in the Highlands Ranch, CO and parts of Phoenix, AZ area's. |

| Thank you both! I'm PM'd Jon with the details. Sorry my first message was a little vague. I would have thought twice about building in this area if there was no broadband service as my job more or less depends on having it. After 9 months of seeing it available, it was a bit spooky seeing it disappear! |
