| reply to BillRoland Yup. The Central Florida market is about 30 days behind our launch. It's a busy month for Cox Corporate in Florida. |

Nah, now he's got the DNS-redirect "enhancement" to post about ...
... and there's aways Vonage not offering a local # in his area. |

1 edit | Gee thanks Is Arizona getting it, too?
I gave up on Vonage months ago. Thinking about going back to POTS for telephone as VOIP isn't as reliable. Tried to pick up the phone to make a call one night turned out dead as the entire node was gone. Luckly, I didn't need to dial 911. I've been reading an article about such a case with Comcast's VOIP plan and a customer needing to call 911 in an emergency. Scary.

and yes, the redirect issue is evil evil evil.

| reply to cspot OnDemand was implemented in Tulsa a few weeks ago and my reaction it is not much of an addition. Thank god we are not paying a monthly service charge. Many of the movies are also on the digital channels. The specialty channels are fluff. Navigation through the selections is slow and clumsy. |

robertfl Premium join:2005-10-10 Mary Esther, FL | Did you tell them about this problem? I'm aware theres a memory leak issue on the 3250HD boxes but I don't know if that was fixed or not with the recent upgrade we had.
When I played with it in an Adelphia area it was responsive.

When I played with it in an Adelphia area it was responsive. Rob There is not a memory "leak" issue with the 3250's.
Older style boxes with only 8mb of available RAM like the Explorer 2000's and 2100's have issues with loading two simultaneous applications. If the OnDemand menu is accessed, the long discription for the IPG can (and often is) purged. It is a function of the boxes programming, and without it the box would simply lock up. It is a "feature", so to speak.
Some early revision 3250's may also have the lower memory spec. We have very few of those out in the field, and those boxes may experience a loss of guide data.
Explore 3250SD/HD 8300SD/HD 8240SD/HD 3240SDC/HDC 8240SDC/HDC boxes have not had any issues in the lab loading streams, running streams and maintaining data.
When we start serving group testing to employees, I'll definatly let you know if the 3250's experience difficulty. |

robertfl Premium join:2005-10-10 Mary Esther, FL | Then what is greywolf experiencing then? Just a bad box?
(in regards to the navigation not the content)
I don't know what content is available (I hope SCIFI) in our area when we get it.

Rob Two way communication issues (house wiring, plant), network congestion, box health (heat, bad box, etc..); any of those things could cause the box to perform poorly. None of which, at this time, affect the Gulf Coast or even Central Florida.
I have not seen any Sci-Fi content come through, though not all of our catchers are online and recieving content from all providers. |

Many of the movies are also on the digital channels. The specialty channels are fluff. Navigation through the selections is slow and clumsy. There's plenty of stuff..it's nice to be able to use it with a DCT700 on the extra TV in the bedroom. What is bad is the incredibly awful software. As you said, it's slow and clumsy, and very low resolution. The programs look good for SD, though, so it's just the software that runs on the box that's the problem.
I wish they'd get some HD programs on OnDemand, though. Comcast has had HD on their VOD product for a long time.
BTW, there was a notice in this month's bill that Adult OnDemand is coming this month. I knew it was coming eventually, as I saw the banner on an unencrypted QAM a few months ago when I was browsing through all the digital channels with my non-CableCard TV set. Somehow I expect that I'll never use it. |

Cox Corporate likes to keep all markets using the same SARA configuration.
As a rule, all markets run their boxes in low-res mode with no transparencies to conserve memory. We have a lot (over 60,000 in the Gulf Coast) of DHCT's out there that run a limited about of RAM (8mb). With the multiple applications that are running (IPG, iTV, OD..), the boxes already purge a bit of data. We can't complicate matters by turning up the wick on the SARA interface.
Unfortunately, the lowest common denominator rules. And there are lots of legacy boxes out there that can't do what the newer equipment can within the current network environment.
