WinAntiVirus 2006

aggressive advertising (1, 2, 3, 4); false positives work as goad to purchase; inappropriate collection of Personally Identifiable Information; same company as WinAntiSpy 2005, WinAntiSpyware 2006, & WinFixer [A: 5-21-05 / U: 6-13-06]

WinAntiVirus keeps questionable company with WinFixer and others.
See here, esp.links to Sandi Hardmeier's blogs:

»The WinFixer - ValueClick connection

Also, these rogue products are often used in redirect exploits. While you are comtemplating getting this great product, other unwanted stuff will sneak in if you don't have adequate protection:

WinAntiVirus Pro 2006 is malware designed to extort by suggestion and intimidation. It is only good for stealing money and credit card info.

Flagged by Spybot S&D and others - yes best keep away and stick to a well-known and well-received AV like NOD32, KAV, or some of the other majors.

Format. No other good way. Never use any product that starts with "Win" and ends with "Pro".

»www.superantispyware.com/ should take care of it.

Caution

@verizon.net

I do not know if this would work or not....but you could try doing a System Restore to a date you know is prior to the infection.
As for myself I would reformat instead of spending money for yet another program. A reformat and you know for sure it is gone.
