here in canada you can get 25 down 1 up, with no funny speed boost(like comcast?) or weird stuff, just you pay the fee for that tier, and you get that speed(with cable)

I'll take American broadband (usually) over Canadian broadband anyday... Why? You're notorious for heavy capping and low quality services, yet you are so much more densely populated compared to the USA. 90% within 100 miles of U.S. border.

I can get 30/5 here from two providers (well two soon!)...

thats true. that 25 down/1up tier come with a 150g cap.

however, our DSL is fun(on the west of the country anyway). about $50/mo, 6 down, 1 up, and no cap. and no pppoe nosense just MAC based DHCP IP's.

Well 150GB ain't bad, but I have heard horror stories about other Canadian ISPs. I don't have any caps on my service, though there are some upload caps on the standard service (not bandwidth usage, but rather speed)... The premium tier for $10-15 more a month has no upload caps whatsoever on the upload side, and there are no download caps on either package. FIOS has no capping whatsoever, so I'm waitign for that, though I've never been capped and I upload a couple GBs a day at 2mbps.

well, that 25/1 tier better be 150, since its $99!!
the normal $35 consumer tier is 7/0.5 and it has a cap of around 50. the medium tier is $60/mo is 10/1 and has a cap of 100

on the other hand, as mentioned, the main dsl isp has ridiculously low caps, but does not enforce them at all.

Didn't you click on the link I so kindly provided. It is $60 cheaper in NJ then other parts of the country where it is offered. Cablevision is good for something after all.

The top picture is the offer for FiOS in New Jersey. The one on the bottom is the offer for the rest of the country.

New Jersey gets 50 Mbps for $40 less than the great unwashed gets 30 Mbps. NJ gets twice the down speed for the same price in the basic tier and 1/3 more down and 2 1/2 times the up speed in the middle tier for the same price.

That's really nice. I didn't know they offered 50mbps in NJ yet... Good price for people who can afford it, for me the sweet spot is 20mbit/5mbit for $50... Better deal than the 15/2 from OOL for $45..

Verizon's plans for NJ are a direct attack on Cablevison. I now must admit Cablevision is good for something other then keeping the Jets in NJ.

The Jets suck, let them leave... Wait, no... They bring in tax revenue for NJ, so that helps us all save money.

If it wasn't for Verizon, we'd all still be on a single tier 10/1 connection from OOL instead of the free 15/2 upgrade and other tiers.
