When I had Cox for my phone the tech that installed it said that it was indeed VoIP just a closed system on their network. The reason why it doesn't go out when the power goes is because there is a UPS on the side of your house, in that grey Cox Box, along with an ATA that they are using to supply you with phone.
If the power goes out for long enough, it will disconnect. They often have this info in the small print on their ads, and would rather keep it a secret Im sure.  |
