| reply to Akasha Wow .... I'm speechless!
The author of Hitch-hikers Guide To The Galaxy and several other books, who sadly passed way before his time.

We watched the movie last year, got to scene showing the big implosion of Earth, and our youngest son's reaction still makes us laugh today. He sat up with eyes wide as saucers saying, "Those poor sheep!"

| reply to PC Doc 54 One of my favorite stories. Sad that often the best and brightest amoung us leave too early, like Jerry Garcia and Adams. I never laughed so hard in my life until I read his writing, I read his stuff at one of the most depressing periods of my life and his work was huge therapy for me. I hope I get to meet him one day at the end of the Galaxy... -- You know your life has gotten "DICEY" when it turns into an episode of LOST, like my ex wife, who I swear is one of "The Others"... !!!Save Lives: Join Team Discovery AND Team Helix, it is easy and painless to do!!! |

| reply to PC Doc 54 The the Babel fish in the original Infocom text game "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" about drove my husband and I nuts.
We had a Commodore 64, and had spent a long time trying to step on the Babel fish, eat the Babel fish, throw it, etc. It was one of the more memorable of the real early computer games.

1 edit | reply to PC Doc 54 I liked his "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency".
At one point he hits the back of a car - storms out and says "I hope you have a good lawyer", to be greeted by "I am a good lawyer"
The BBC broadcasts are far better than the movie "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy". The radio broadcasts script in print - also equally great. I was disappointed by the movie.

| reply to PC Doc 54 Funny story, I was in a job interview with the HR Director and the IT Manager. IT Manager asks "What's the answer to life, the universe and everything?" Without missing a beat I said "42!". His jaw dropped, then he told HR Director "He'll fit in fine." to which the HR Director just looked confused. I got the job |

| reply to PC Doc 54 I actually MET Douglas Adams.
Oh yes this is my proud boast.
Well, ok then - what really happened was...
...I lined up at a bookstore with all of my Douglas Adams books and got him to autograph them.
When I got to the front of the line, he would only do one book, so I had to line up 8 times in total to get them all done. |

So long and thanks for all the fish So sad that it should come to this We tried to warn you all but oh dear
You may not share our intellect Which might explain your disrespect For all the natural wonders that grow (around you) So long so long and thanks for all the fish
The worlds about to be destroyed Theres no point getting all annoyed Lie back and let the world dissolve (around you)
Despite those nets of tuna fleetes We thought most of you were sweet Especially tiny tots and your pregnant women
So long so long, so long so long, so long so long, so long so long So long so long, so long so long, so long so long, so long so long So long so long and thanks for all the fish
If I had just one last wish I would like a tasty fish If we could just change one thing We would all have learnt to sing
Come one and all Man and mammal Side by side in life's great gene pool
So long so long, so long so long, so long so long, so long so long So long so long, so long so long, so long so long, so long so long So long so long and thanks for all the fish -- "I learned to fold at home. In my spare time." Bugzilla'57 |
