| PPPoE / 1 static IP config
Hello:
I'm considering subscribing to your dry loop ADSL2+ service (business service at a residential address), with 1 static IP address.
Do you use PPPoE on this service?
Can I configure it so that this IP address gets pulled through the Netopia box and I can do NAT with my own router/firewall?
In that case, would the Netopia box still do the PPPoE and I'd configure my router with a static wan configuration.. or would I configure my router to handle the PPPoE itself and the Netopia is basically just a bridge then?
I realize that this would be considered an 'unsupported' configuration... I'm just wondering if I can get into the Netopia box and configure it in this way.
Thanks.

It would be a bridge, and your device would need to handle everything, however this set-up is not supported by us.

| Yes,
The Gateway (DSL Router) will authenticate, and pull a private WAN IP. You will then enter the LAN IP address we give you, which will act as your LAN gateway, and give you 5 usable IP's on your LAN -- Lightning Bolt Technologies |

I'm considering about the same setup you've mentioned. Did you go though with it with LBDSL? If so, how'd it go, if not, who did you pick?
Thanks for the heads up! |

| I have not yet picked up the new service from any provider. If/when I finally do, I would be leaning toward a different provider of the ADSL2+ service due to cancellation policies and Terms of Service/Acceptable use policy of LB (read the fine print). I probably shouldn't mention the name of the other company in this forum (it's not Covad), but they said their service also uses PPPoE (I think the covad network partners all have to do that). |

| reply to tcstone Hi,
I just ordered the 15/1 with the /29 ip block just have a question with the router given it only has 4 ports and it isn't a giga speed router. So would I be able to connect a giga switch to the Netopia 2247-NWG and use the 5 ips address from the 8 port giga switch instead of the 4 ports on the Netopia? |
