| D-Link Vs. Actiontec?
My internet has been out for two days now. It seems that the router is bad, not fully sure yet. I am using net hooked up to my PC at the moment, but we will see if it disconnects soon.
Anyways, what router do you guys like? The D-Link 624 or ActionTec? I use wireless often and port forwarding. I had no issues with D-Link up until now. |

| Between those two, the Actiontec is the better router in terms of performance. |

| F the Actiontec. Big POS! Wireless totally sux on it, and port forwarding is nothing but a big total B*tcH!
I just had Verizon tech leave my house after 9 hours!!! They couldn't get my port forwarding to work right even after swapping out multiple patch cables, ONT and actiontec router 3x. They went with a NIM with my trusty linksys and so far so good...we'll see now... |

| reply to ZzBloopzZ Port forwarding works fine on the Actiontec. You just have to set it up correctly.
For example, to forward port 65000 for torrent traffic, you set incoming to ->65000 and outgoing to ->all. Few people realize that the incoming port on their router has nothing to do with destination port of that traffic for many apps.
In SmallNetBuilder's tests, the Actiontec MI-424WR was one of the top performing routers:

| reply to ZzBloopzZ I have both routers and I like the DI-624 better. The main reason is that my CallVantage won't work behind the Actiontec and the Dlink interface is easier for me to understand.
As for which has better throughput, I can't answer that except for the fact that I did a speed-test behind both routers and I was surprised to see that the Dlink was marginally faster. All of my VOD has to flow through the Dlink before it gets to the Actiontec, and I've had no problem with VOD. HD may be another story.
I never tried the wireless on the Actiontec but the DI-624 has surprisingly good range. I had a Dlink DI-614+ and the 624 is a big improvement over the 614+.
I keep the Actiontec around strictly for its MoCA connection to my STB. |
