well there is no such thing as too much protection, but i think some of you might be running more than you really need

with the following i have not had any adware, let alone a virus in over 18 months

wrt54gl/ddwrt connected to 2 desktops and 2 laptops all running XP pro:

NOD32 2.70 (auto update every 6 hours)
Ad aware SE (update and clean once a week)
spybot S&D (update and clean once a week)

seriously the worst thing that happened in a while was starforce, and that was my fault...

Even though this topic has come up numerous times here in
this forum, given the way malware seems to be changing, it
is worth a repost every few months or so.

My current setup is Avast 4.7, the MVPS hosts file, Sygate
Personal Firewall Pro, SpywareBlaster, and Mozilla 1.7.13.
The latter is on the list because IE is so tied in with the
OS that exploits and drive by downloads are more likely.

And in the extermely unlikely event anything gets past
Sygate, Avast, or the hosts file, the last line of defense
is SpybotSD.

But more important than any of that is a good measure of
common sense.

I use AVG on a file server for all my downloads. After about a week of downloads on the file server I will scan it using a free online scanner. If I need to use the file asap I will use one of the single file scan online scanners that use multiple scanners. I run no avti-virus spyware/adware protection on my main system. I do however, run a firewall and do monthly scans with a free online scanner on my main system.

NOD32 resident
KAV 6.0 on-demand for suspect downloads
SpywareBlaster and SpybotS&D immunized
Common Sense

The last virus I had was about 15 years ago, when my son accidently double-clicked one I had sitting on the desktop for inspection...

If I didn't have a Mac I'd do the same as you.

With the same frequency as the 'oh, I just got a Mac' threads?

Well one does have to wonder how long people will keep screwing around with this before they switch.

I use AntiVir and Avg free, using AntiVir's guard. I know your are not supposed to use 2 anti virus programs, but they both play nice on my system. I use Counter Spy, Spybot S@D and Ad-aware, with Spyware blaster wrapped around Firefox, SeaMonkey and IE7. I'm also behind a router. Other than a few tracking cookies, I don't have any infections.

Re: What is your Anti-Virus, Spyware/Adware protection setup?

i think avast is a good av.. i have never used it, but in the tests that i have seen it seems to do pretty good..

i am running "antivir premium" and, right now, emsisoft's "a-squared antimalware"..

if i weren't running a2, i reckon i would be running "superantispyware", instead..

you can get "superantispyware" with lifetime updates for $19.95..

»www.superantispyware.com/definit···2519325}

or you could use c-BOC for free..

incidentally, there have been some issues with c-BOC 4.23.. a new c-BOC 4.24 is expected very shortly..
