Re: University Blocking Communications two internal networks

cmon guys.

i'm not trying to fool anyone. ofcourse this is not sanctioned by the IT guys.

they oppose to it because it's the university's policy. they can't help.

can you guys stop acting all pure and give a guy a hand or is it "forum policy" not to help anyone?

Uhm, it is against IT and a security standpoint to help hacking past whatever is in place to stop you from what *THEY* don't want you to do.

It's their network.
If they say no... well?

Yes, it is probably possible to get past it, but is it worth it to YOU to get boned for doing it?

@ac.il

can we just agree that whether or not I get boned and how deep is my problem?

I just need some help. I could disguise it under "let's take a theoretical situation where I have a firewall bla bla bla...." but I didnt.

cause we are all grownups and know what we are doing and the risks I take are my own...

can someone help me or not?

i'd really appreciate anyone's help.

tahnks again and have a good day

So, you want to get past whatever campus IT has inplace so you can do some P2P?

... and you don't care what would happen to - me/us, here, if *we* told you how.

Uhm... no. Sorry.

Now, if you have a Security related issue... the good people here most likely can and will help you with it.

Asking how to get past network security aint gonna fly.

Apparently not.

No one here is going to tell you how to circumvent your Uni's security, lol.....that is counter productive to what this forum is about, which is to help people BE secure, not to tell them how to get around someone else's network security.

This forum is NOT designed to assist illegal and/or otherwise unacceptable activities.

Apparently you do not understand the implications of what you're asking.

We do not assist those, reguardless of how badly they want it, to bypass security implementations by the Network Administrators, It's their network, their rules, if you don't like it, get your own connection. They have those implementations in place to prevent bandwidth wasting by users like you whom think they have a right to do anything they want. Many of us are network staff ourselves and understand why the network administration is placing those limitations on you, to prevent your personal, frivolious activities from wasting resources and propegation of viruses.

Why the Network Admin is doing that?.. many reasons.. to keep bandwidth wasting down...to keep viruses off their network... to promote proper usage of an educational network (hm.. novel idea, educational network being used for education)... Not wanting to put up with (often frivolous) "copyright infringement lawsuits"...

Final statment: When you become the Network Administrator of that system, THEN you can make up the rules, until then, I suggest you stop being a freebie and treating that line like a personal internet connection. -- Don't turn the university's network into a bandwidth-wasting circus where less than 5% of the users have 60%+ of the bandwidth like most ISP's networks are now. (And people complain because there's not enough bandwidth to go around)

Ah - but that is the problem. You don't understand the implications to the University and don't seem to care about finding out. This is exactly why policies are put in place - it is not just your problem.

I just need some help. I could disguise it under "let's take a theoretical situation where I have a firewall bla bla bla...." but I didnt.
That wouldn't have changed the responses you received here. As others have pointed out you will not find out how to avoid or break security policies and protections here.

cause we are all grownups and know what we are doing and the risks I take are my own
Again, the risks you take are not your own. When you grow up you will understand this.

As pointed out, you don't own the network

You make no sense. Why would you even think any legitimate forum dedicated to security would assist you in breaching the security of your Uni's network?

Maybe a little more time dedicated to school work instead of wasting time trying to engage in forbidden activities on the Uni's network would be in order.

Well, some folks here are in IT field for a living...I have no doubt someone could tell you exactly how to do it....but I don't see one IT professional telling you how to make another IT professionals job harder than it already is...

Its no easy task protecting you "college" guys from yourselves..:)

P2P is blocked for many reasons....none of which you seem to want to understand.

Wow, such good help here...

I will help you the best I can, but it's not much unfortunately. SNIPPED TO: ...
But hey, lesson learned, next time just make something up like ''I have my own firewall I want to test...'' and then you will probably gwet what you want
Great advice. Lie, so you can break the rules.

Guess you "gwet" what you pay for.....

That kind of post occasionally surfaces, and I give them the same advice as the others have given above.

The requesters are usually vague about their network and systems, and/or have some excuse why they can't log in to administrative functions or physically access the equipment or wiring. Other old wheezes are;

"my school assignment requires blah blah"

"My boss wants me to blah blah but the IT guy is being a jerk"

"I need to unblock functions, open ports or bypass my router, but I can't since my ISP/roommate/dad/granny can't/won't/doesn't know how".

"I'm the administrator at xxx and I need to allow blah blah without changing the firewall"

"I'm helping our science teacher who needs our lab PCs to blah blah but we can't"

Finally, "I'm trying to hack around our uni/company firewalls so I can P2P/p0rnsurf/stream video - Since I'm being an honest dude about it, how about helping me?"

Variations abound. All it takes is an initial read of the request and asking a couple of relevant questions of the poster to confirm the intent.
