| reply to Ernest6363 Everybody on OOL is now at 15Mbps for basic service.
What file are you using to test the download speed?
try this file:
»ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/pub/test64 -- University of Southern California - Class of 2010. Fight On! |

| reply to Ernest6363 Everyone has been upgraded to 15/2, including you. You are obviously having an issue that is causing a problem. Brooklyn speeds have not been "halved"....don't assume your problem is the same as anyone elses, and above all, don't panic.
If you are using a router, which one? What are your signal levels?
»Optimum Online FAQ »How can I check out my signal levels?
What are the results of one of these speed tests, both DL and UL? (You *might* have to register here to use them, not sure about that....give it a go and see. Or, just register. ).

| reply to Ernest6363 Try this ...
Download DrTcp
Set Tcp Receive Window to 128480
Set Windows Scaling, Time Stamping, Selective Acks, Path MTU Discovery, Black Hole Detection to Default.
Leave Max Duplicate Acks and TTL Blank
Save/Exit DrTcp
Reboot
Rerun the Tweak Test
Run Two Speed Tests from the two DIFFERENT cities nearest to you that are listed here: Speakeasy POPs
Also, test here »ftp://ftp1.optonline.net/test512
Note your speed after about 30 seconds. Then cancel the download.
Post the URL for the New Tweak Test. For the TWO Speakeasy Tests, Copy and Paste the speed results from those tests and note the speed from the FTP download test. -- "You can observe a lot by watching". Yogi Berra |

| reply to Ernest6363 I've been having the same issue recently, started late last week. I called and spoke to a rep and he told me he's not aware of any slowdowns occuring due to any upgrade work being done. I was getting about 10mb/down, 2mb/up...now I'm getting 2-4mb down/1mb up. I live in Brooklyn as well. |

@optonline.net | I am using the BitDefender Firewall |

| When I was talking to the OOL rep on the phone yesterday, he todl me they may be working on upgrading equipment, hence the slowdown, but he didn't see any notes from the techs re: slowdown. By the way: he also informed me that OOL only guarantees 2mb down in their contract.
If this stays like this, I'll probably jump ship even before verizon fios comes around to Brooklyn (I heard it'll be another year). |

Why don't you Brooklynites post a well worded message on the OOL Direct forum? Maybe some of the OOL employees there will be able to help. |

@optonline.net | This is really funny.. They advertise 15 MB but They guarantee only 2 MB.. , 7 and a 1/2 Times Less... Wow.. |

| Blah. I just got off of the phone with tech support and they say that my speeds are above the guarantee and nothing can be done. No packet loss, signal strength fine... blah blah. :/ My only option now is to try and exchange modems at a Walk-In Center, but what are the chances of that helping?
I did post a query in the direct forum. |

@optonline.net | Yep, I got the same story. Yeah, well...if the speeds dont go back to normal, I wont stick with OOL that much longer. Playing games online with lag is no fun. |
