| reply to Anomus Re: DD-WRT Linkys and cantenas work great...
said by Anomus :I have been slurping my neighbors internet connection for 2 years now useing the same 3 routers and cantennas. They were'nt too expensive but the money has paid off hansomely in free access and Safe Anonomous movie DLing. The routers never change but I have to periodically adjust the 3 cantena positions to maintain good speeds. One antenna on an expensive router will never be as good so its just a waste of money. I finally hit the 12,000 movie file mark and almost as many TV show eposides, so clearly anonimity from **aa lawsuits is my biggest wireless benefit. Long live Wifi... You sir, are a terrible neighbor and horrible person. Not only are you illegally stealing movies, but you are potentially exposing your neighbor to a lawsuit by the MPAA or RIAA which could end up costing them thousands of dollars or worst case, send them to jail.
Then to top it all off, you're bragging about it. Typical criminal behavior, commit the crime then you feel the need to brag about it.

| Well, referencing my above post that should post soon, I guess averybody in my neighbohood is terrible people. But somebody invented the saying "when in rome". And as far as movie DLing, I am part of the worldwide p2p movement with hundreds of millions of members. And everyday, thousands more join. When the day comes when everybody is doing it, there will be nobody left to call us thieves. It will simply be the new way of things and industry will evolve to cater to our new whimes. The whimes of the consumer... |

| reply to Anomus Okay, I'll bite - what 'Industry' is going to cater to the whims of a public that will only take a product if it's free?
I also notice that you are so proud of yourself, you post anonymously. Tell us, do you brag to your neighbors about how you take advantage of their equipment and bandwidth? Or aren't you quite that proud? |

| reply to Anomus Since you are leeching off of a RR account, you could potentially cause problems for the legitimate user. Of course, you could care less as long as your selfish needs are met.
As far as your example of the burglar going into the open house, don't bet your freedom on it. The law takes the legal rights of real property owners very seriously. Wi-Fi is relatively new as far as this topic is concerned but don't count too much on no consequences for illegal action.

| reply to comissar The p2p revolution was driven by several events. The first was the decades of price fixing of CD prices that no one ever stepped in and abated. Second, was the need for content in file format that played on anything. The industry refused to accomodate us comsumers. The consumer has had enough and they are doing it for themselves. Now the industry whines and whines but its their falt and now they will have to change to accomodate the new reality because the world has changed and its not going back. Content on TV and radio has always been free but the industry has been on a relentless push to eliminate free radio and TV for subscription and payperview. p2p has thrown a monkey wrench in their plans and they will be forced to broaden their free ad driven content model if they want to stay in business. Those that refuse will be bought out by those that accomodate. And there isnt enough suits in the world to stop it. In a free enterprize system, the people are the power and now we're stepping up.
Since the **aa's see fit to use the expensive legal system and try to drive a select few into bancrupcy as some sort of example to try to scare the masses, I am very prudent to stay anonomous and keep my head down. This way I can continue to feed the p2p machine and do my part to keep it healthy and strong. The **aa's don't want these issues in court, they just want our money and humiliaton. If the **aa's arn't big enough to genuinely want these maters judged by a court, then we arn't big enough to show our faces. They play games and we use untraceable wifi. And if the **aa's nab and accuse an inocent router owner, then the **aa's will eventually have egg on their face because the accused is inocent. Then the accused has a chance to get rich because of being falsely accused. As posted above, I have no love for my neighbors so I would probably be jealous if my neighbors got rich due to my actions. But the reality is that they will win the lotery before anything happens at all. I saw a police interview and they say they can't even catch pedephiles when they use a Wifi link. Wifi p2p appears to be unstopable and I sleep good. |

| reply to mikepd This has been going on for years. There is no problems with the subscriber. There is already excess bandwidth and now RR is further cranking up the DL speeds to 10Mb/s. I am invisible useing DDWRT and I dont even show up in their network neighborhood. I have the router passwords and they never push the routers reset button. So they dont even know about the router setup page where they could look me up. And if they learn about it and push reset to regain access to their own router, my connection and setups will vanish and they still won't know I was there. But I will know they have wised up and consider it my invitation to leave. So you see, they have control and can kick me anytime they want but it just doesn't happen. Its all good for everybody and industry will adapt to our wants. Its inevitable. |
