| Speed is drastically slow
I've noticed a major drop in speeds over the past few days. Well, it actually started yesterday morning when I noticed my cable modem service wasn't running as fast as it usually does. Sometimes I can get speeds up to 8Mbps on the down side. I was wondering if anybody was experiencing this same problem with Comcast. My upload speed is way faster than my download speeds. Here is a picture of my test results:

I'm in the Savannah, Georgia area. If anybody else is experiencing this problem or knows why it's been drastically slow since yesterday, please reply. Thanks. |

| reply to ARNGUS I tried the Atlanta site like you told me to and it was even worse. I can't upload a picture since the website won't load, but the test results are: 21 kbps down and 2666 kbps up.
I called Comcast and they said that there was nothing wrong on their side. They want to charge me to come out and take a look at my cable modem, run some tests, etc. I can't afford it on top of the $69.95 I pay them every month for internet access. I've checked everything on my computer, including scanning for viruses, malware/spyware, then disabling Norton, the firewall, resetting the cable modem, checking the wires, everything imaginable.
I noticed a few nights ago it was starting to slow down, but I didn't think anything of it until I got up the next morning and it started loading web pages like I was on dial-up. I'm gonna have to sit and wait this one out and hopefully they'll discover the problem. |

In case you didn't mention it, try connecting the cable modem to the computer, bypass the router completely. Re-run some tests, see if it improves?
I have personally never been told I'd be charged a fee for a tech to come out and check my service. I'd get some more details on that if I was you. Sounds odd, might be your area?
Also, try to ping big sites like comcast.net google.com etc. Use something like pingplotter, see if you can locate the high ping location.
If you can locate the troubled router/hub, call comcast back and tell them the exact ip/name, see if they keep giving you a hard time.
Hope it helps, maybe someone else can jump in, hello people? -- "If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float by." - Sun Tsu (544 496 BC) |

| I appreciate the help you've been giving me, but apparently it had something to do with Comcast, not me. My speeds are back to normal now. Perhaps they were just doing maintenance work of some sort. Again, thanks for your help.

| Lucky you. I have had horrible speeds for 2 days now, and yet comcast is till being as slow as ever. I tried contacting them via live chat, and i swear they hire stupid people. I did a tracert to Atlanta and showed that i have no problem connecting to the local office, but once i got to the Atlanta ip i started getting 300ms. Which shows it is them, not me, yet the person said nothing. |
