 Do you erase?

Do you erase the media or other data you download? By what criteria? ... details

I have a tendency to keep all that I have gathered - that creates a bit of a storage problem

How about you?

Looking forward to an informative, thoughtful and interesting discussion...

Any tips, tricks, links, suggestions are much appreciated

Thank you all...

I shift delete after watching, or burning.

I keep a DVDR collection of good movies. Have collected about 200 so far.

Pretty much pack rat. I do occasionally use eraser on files I want to make sure are gone, or if I'm feeling especially paranoid.

Digital pack rat here as well. In over 4+ years of having a
Usenet account with Giganews, I've amassed 235GB of music and
478 GB of movies, TV shows and anime.

Along the way I've gone through 6 hard drives, which either
got too full or more frequently died on me, forcing me to
restore everything from backup DVDRs.

Pretty much since day 1 I backed up everything I downloaded
onto CDR, then DVDR. I currently am up to 185 DVD's worth.

I've listened to about 40-50% of the music, and watched
maybe 20-30% of the video (though the actual amount seen
is larger since much of what I downloaded I had previously
recorded on VHS during the 90s.)

A good tip is don't eat the yellow snow, another is to buy a bigger HDD.

good point now that I started getting HD - 720p movies - I feel that I can finally let go and erase some of the regular 700MB ones...

Another digital pack rat here. I've been getting larger hard drives since downloading. Right now, I have a 320GB SATA drive which I will start downloading into, once I get my desktop back. I'm currently using a laptop and saving my stuff on an external HDD.

Yeah, I have saved everything since my p2p start with the original Napster. I just keep adding hard drives, bigger and better. Right now, I run 3 HD's independently. Heck, I rarely delete anything I DL, even game patched. Definitely a digi-pack rat

Anime gets saved, dumped to dvdr when storage gets tight. Anything else is subject to deletion either after viewing or when space is needed.

Audio - save & burn
Music video - save & burn
Other video - watch (rarely burn) -> delete
Games - burn -> delete
Apps - save small; burn large image files -> delete

I save all music on my harddrive, back up new music to DVD-R every quarter.

Movies I delete if I watched and bad.
Good ones I keep and burn to DVD-R...really good ones I leave on harddrive for friends to have a go at it.

Software and pictures and other crap can all fit on a single DVD, which gets backed up every 3 months at the end of each semester.

Gotta stay organized!

Only if it's a bad copy of whatever I've downloaded or something better comes along. I download a lot of stuff and never get around to even watching it some times. I have about 3/4 of my 750 GB full. Need to build a fileserver or something eventually when I finish my media center build.
