DC++ UPnP and Windows XP Firewall

I am trying to configure the connection settings in DC++, but it keeps giving me this error "failed to create port mappings." I am trying to enable the UPnP option so that I don't have to manually enter the ports, but I suppose that would be the only option if I cannot get UPnP to work. I have a direct connection to the internet (no router) since I am in a college dorm.

My roommate used the UPnP option and it worked fine, but I think he was using McAfee firewall or something, whereas I am currently using the Windows XP firewall. I used a UPnP diagnostic test to see what was not working and it gave me the errors: "Adapter #0 - : FAILED" and "Get external IP address : FAILED". I am guessing this has something to do with the Windows firewall.

Thanks

Did you try setting everything up with Windows Firewall turned off for the time being? See if that works, and if it does, turn it back on..see if it breaks then.

@verizon.net

Well, I was initially using ZoneAlarm firewall, but I was getting the same problem. I decided to try using Windows Firewall since I read that some people had had problems with UPnP working with Zonealarm. I am reluctant to connect to the internet with the firewall disabled.

I managed to find a port of DC++ for linux, so I just started that up in Ubuntu and it seems to work fine with the direct connection option enabled. So I guess I'll just go with that instead of mucking around with Windows. Thanks for suggestions.

I didnt mean to run without a firewall all the time, just to test. IF you disabled the firewall and it worked, then you know the Windows firewall was to blame, and continue your effort on dealing with te firewall and not the program.
