| DC++ UPnP and Windows XP Firewall
I am trying to configure the connection settings in DC++, but it keeps giving me this error "failed to create port mappings." I am trying to enable the UPnP option so that I don't have to manually enter the ports, but I suppose that would be the only option if I cannot get UPnP to work. I have a direct connection to the internet (no router) since I am in a college dorm.
My roommate used the UPnP option and it worked fine, but I think he was using McAfee firewall or something, whereas I am currently using the Windows XP firewall. I used a UPnP diagnostic test to see what was not working and it gave me the errors: "Adapter #0 - : FAILED" and "Get external IP address : FAILED". I am guessing this has something to do with the Windows firewall.

| Well, I was initially using ZoneAlarm firewall, but I was getting the same problem. I decided to try using Windows Firewall since I read that some people had had problems with UPnP working with Zonealarm. I am reluctant to connect to the internet with the firewall disabled.
I managed to find a port of DC++ for linux, so I just started that up in Ubuntu and it seems to work fine with the direct connection option enabled. So I guess I'll just go with that instead of mucking around with Windows. Thanks for suggestions. |
