Enabling your customers to self-police effectively has got to be cheaper than hiring malcontents and sociopaths to call them up and threaten them.

...
Precisely! If Comcast subscribers, rather than Comcast engineers, are tasked with policing network traffic, it would be a trivial task to provide subscribers with the information necessary to accomplish the task.

There are signs posted on the hiway stating how fast you can drive. If no signs are not posted than how do you know what your speed limit is?

Doing so would put the public relations onus back on the people who are allegedly bringing the network to its knees (which is horse shit and everyone knows it).

Set an alarm (they don't really even need to tell people what the threshold is which should keep the fangrrlz and apologists happy) and enter an email address or text message ID to notify when it goes off. Customer ignores alarm at own peril.

Pretty easy stuff. There are thousands of systems out there just like this from bandwidth alarms to tornado warnings to Aurora Borealis alerts. Hell, even make is a "premium feature".

But for god's sake, Comcast, please stop treating your customers like they've been poisoning puppies.

And when the Comcast cop pulls you over he merely tells you to "slow down".

Brilliant. Then you ask how fast can you go, the cop says, “I can’t tell you, but just don’t do it again.” Having no idea or help from Comcast what too much is, but being the conscientious customer that you are, you do lower you usage. Then next month, with even lower usage, but having no idea what is acceptable, you find out your over, and your account closed. Comcastic!

People are constantly asking me why I don't switch from my Bellsouth 3gig service to the higher speed Comcast in my area. After seeing threads like this, I remember why. Even when I leave something like Limewire running all the time, Bellsouth never sends me a letter.

I feel the same way. I don't like to rule any service out, but it's hard to keep Comcast HSI on the list of services I'd consider when they seem to be proud of policies that demonize their subscribers.

Having one user use as much bandwidth as a couple city blocks isn't the best way for comcast to make money now is it.

35GB a month? Wow that’s some city block, huh?

Of course anyone who really reads the countless threads here on this subject sees the bulk of the complaints are not the limits, but the arbitrary, we can’t tell you, but will terminate your account if you exceed, limits.

So you want to keep the 0.1% of your customers that are abusing your service and impacting the pleasure of your other 99.9%

I see.

You completely missed my point. Which is that at no time are treating my customers like crap acceptable. Regardless of the situation you always maintain a professional respectful demeanor and you go out of your way to help your customers fix the problem/s.

Even in worse case scenarios when you need to cut ties with a customer you do so as humbly as possible. Its a simple matter of having a little class and treating people like you want to be treated.
