I began working at the Buffalo TAC in the fall of 2001. After repeatedly hearing about this site from many irate callers, I began to visit and liked it so much I decided to join 2002. During this time, I tried to help here and there. When I left Adelphia in 2003, I still hung out here but posted less and less as I was no longer in the loop on the Adelphia happenings and didn't want to give out outdated information.

I learned a great deal by just lurking and reading Hob and Mac's posts. No matter what happens with the Adelphia/TW situation, you two at the very least will always find success based on the vast knowledge you have in your fields.

I now mainly hang out and help in the »OS and Software forums and read allot of topics in the »Home Repair & Improvement forum (just closed on my first house).

I sure will miss this forum and most of it's members (bbscript??)

Good luck to all the folks in Buffalo and elsewhere in the country.

BurntCricket : When a company the size of Adelphia(well any company really) files bankruptcy, "they" have no real say it what happens any more, the Court does all the talking, the creditors wanted their money(what they could get anyway) and selling the company was the best way to do this.

There was little to no chance of Adelphia ever coming out of bankruptcy so the Court did what needed done.

Adelphia's problems had little to do with "The burst"(really a big BOOM) or the market itself but fraud on part of the Regases and their head Administration.

Huh? The greed of the stockholders? You'd better research your facts. I don't think the stockholders got, or will get even a dime of the Time Warner/Comcast proceeds. Actually, I don't even see where the stock even trades anymore unless it's somewhere on the pink sheets for a penny or so.

I'm no lawyer but I don't think the stockholders even had a say in what happened following the bankruptcy filing.
Who gets paid are the lawyers, courts..employees..and CREDITORS, meaning the individuals, banks and/or companies that loaned them money.

Stockholders are the very last in line and only get whatever is left, if anything. And, in this case, I think the debt of the company exceeded what they even sold the company for.

And, so it was or is probably a total wipeout for stockholders.

Perhaps the creditors could have all joined together and decided to keep the company running by converting their interests to new shares of stock or whatever, but it's my understanding that is only more commonly done when there is little proceeds to be had and in order to try to recoup something down the road, they agree to take an equity interest instead. And to give the company a fresh start by eliminating or reducing the debt it has.
But there was no incentive here to do that. They'll recover a great deal of the money they were owed and can just now move on. It's far better to invest in a more stable company like Comcast or Time Warner than risk a smaller cable company anymore. Plus, the price was obviously right and these assets commanded a sizeable price to be sold now.

I think in summary, you have to ask yourself, who really was harmed in the long run? Obviously, some employees who were displaced, but a great deal of them were offered other jobs, albeit in different areas. Customers..simply were given a new provider. The Rigas's..went to jail apparently. The Creditors, will or have gotten most of their money.
Lawyers..courts..executives..all have done probably very well off of all this.

And stockholders? A worthless piece of paper to hang on the wall, reminding them of how risky the market can be sometimes.

All I can say is this. I loved Adelphia. I was impressed they upgraded my area (even in bankruptcy) and I have totally enjoyed this forum. i do want to give hob thses two links though... just to see if he remembers. it will definitely bring a laugh. it deals with someone who never posted here, but he receieved attention as if he did. i think if people saw the kind of care and attention customers really did get at adelphia, their opinions of the company would of changed.

Dominokat : It was a great ride here in this forum. The techs that posted here were a great asset to many of us helping with the big and the small problems we all had at one time or another. Not to mention the many off topic threads about beer and Kelly Pickler..... :) :) :)
It was a sad day when Adelphia was bought out. I had hopes they were going to emerge from bankruptcy on it's own. Alas, I am now a Time Warner customer. To be fair, TW has been treating me very well but customer support was better with Adelphia when I needed to call. It also helps Adelphia tech were officially allowed to post here too, unlike Time Warner tech that are not officially allowed to.
This forum and the fun, friendly and helpful people that frequented it are greatly missed and much appreciated.

And for the forum...man oh man. October 22nd, 2000 was my first day here. Not too long after I started at Adelphia's Buffalo call center. Some of the arguments have been legendary, and once you could peel back the layers of our bullshit, there were answers to be had. We had Hicker's crusades, Webmainiac's illogical ramblings polluting EVERY thread in the forum, the D/FW ATM Black Hole of Doom, Cbryrd's fight to get answers, SOL's timely interjections with a beer comment, ah the memories!! (And SOL claims she's hot , but I haven't seen proof of this yet!! I feel left out of the barrel!!) More recently, we had good old WMH threatening me with all kinds of nonsense over subjects he knew exactly dick about. That was a fun week!!

All in all, there have been some real douchebags around here, myself included from time to time. Sorto has done a great job with the occasional backhand when I needed it. But all in all, it's been real, it's been fun, just not always really fun. :-p

Crazyf00L : I joined Adelphia in 2002 and was posting in here as tac5962 back in the days of the Dallas/Fort Worth nightmare, NON-DOCSIS, @home, 1-3 day modem provision, no free leases on a consistant basis, overloaded Nortel HES servers, phone queues of 100+, mandatory overtime, slow or no mail...the list goes on. I also had the pleasure of being one of Hobgoblin's first minions on his rise up the corporate ladder and being one of the first to be a part of the new chat system before my move to IT.
ANYWAY, this was always a great place to get things done, there were a lot of people behind the scences that watched this forum and were able to get things done on a more personal level. I have had a number of "thank you" emails from customers for going the extra mile, and usually that extra mile lead me to here.
There were a ton of talented people that worked for Adelphia and in my opinion, we were much more efficient than those that took us over.
It was a hell of a run and I will miss seeing this forum in my favorites.
P.S. If anyone still wants to catch of glimpse of John Rigas he is still wandering around town, but his appeals are running out, so hurry.

theseus : With the transition of the company came a lot of change for everyone within the company. I began my employment with Adelphia Communications around 2 and a half years ago in Coudersport. I lurked DSLR for quite some time before finally trying to post and help a few times here and there. It is a great feeling to receive a PM from someone thanking me for help. At one point early in employment I worked the overnight shift and actually talked to a few of the forum members who referenced Hobs and my own posts during our conversation. Unfortunately, they never knew and I never got to tell them that I was indeed "Theseus". ;)

After the buy out and the eventual closing of the Coudersport call center, I was transfered to Buffalo to continue within the department I was working in Coudersport. I know its been hard for a lot of customers, and it has been hard for the employees as well. It has been fun in the forum and I thank those that have taught me new things as well. There are times when my good friend DSLR member, Pericles, will mention old threads in conversation.

Threads that always stick out in my mind:

-bbscript's semi-annual "Where is the Extreme, Adelphia?" threads.
-various Van Nuy's threads
-Beer threads!

You will find me around in other forums on the board, the Comcast HSI for my girlfriend, the Linux/Unix forum to learn some new things, and every now and then in various other forums. I hope to see everyone around.

You were one of the first people I "met" here on BBR, and that was during the Adelphia New Castle debacle which I'm sure you probably don't remember. :D Boy have things come a long way since then! And I agree that this was a great help forum. Things sure did turn around after Adelphia rebuilt our system, and the service has been fantastic since 2003.

New Castle was migrated to Comcast a few months ago, and from the sound of it, there are only a few Adelphia areas left. Best of luck to everyone, good talking to everyone here, and Sorto, good job keeping this place running smoothly!

I believe it was fair to keep the forum open until EVERYONE had migrated. The goodbyes have been spaced out as areas migrated piecemeal. Thats why it felt long.

In November 2001 after a period of lurking I signed up and became an active poster in this Forum. In those days Adelphia's service was less than stellar and this forum was a hotbed of complaints! I actively embraced all discussion about Adelphia's service and enjoyed my frequent long running discussions with Mr Hicker from Franklinville

Here is an example of one, with Macleech as always making the most relevant points

This thread contains a visit from some of my other friends Cbyrd and Pale Rider. I believe we drove the moderators mad with this sort of debate but I have to admit I had a lot of fun with Hick.

Talking of Cbyrd one of my favorite threads was when he received a letter from a GM in his area talking about the T! lines his area was using. Its here in all its glory

Anyone else want to contribute memorable threads?

Over the years I have made a lot of friends and enemies on this site, I have learned a bunch of stuff from fellow employees and customers but the most important thing is that I have had a lot of fun.

I'd post a list of names but I'd only forget someone, so I will just settle for thanking the moderators for keeping us on the straight and narrow.

I am sorry to see this forum close, I believe over the years this was the premier help forum on DSL reports. I wish everyone all the best whichever company you are now with.
