Some time ago someone came through our neighborhood and put blue parallel spray paint marks on the curbs in front of the houses. No one quite sure why.

Then the other day I was pulling into the cul-de-sac and there was a guy from Comcast with ID and a clipboard, saying he was canvassing the comcast users there to see if he could "save them some money". I think he was legit as using my address he was able to recite my info and monthly payment amount. He said he could "definitely" save me money. I had to go somewhere, so we never continued the conversation. But I did not hear back from him. I suspect they would be trying to lock me in as they know that FIOS is coming.

Scott1000 : I am the first to get FIOS at the West end of Glenwood Ave and Mukilteo Blvd (Madrona Ave) in Everett, WA 98203. I got the 15/15 package. I was getting 15.5 down/15.2 up using »mssjc.visualware.com/myspeed/ at install today but almost immediately went to 15.5/7.5 so I have a call ticket in on that. Verizon has their own speed site:
»speedtest.verizon.net/SpeedTeste···ults.jsp which shows my speed at 6.1/5.5 which seems like less than half what they promised. But when compared to my Comcast's 8 down/1.5 up package (Comcast fastests package) it shows I am a little over twice as fast down and 4 times faster up than Comcast. Server turn around times are half or better than Comcast as are most ping times, except google (for some reason). The download rates are relatively in line with my package but the up is only half as much as it should be right now.

Still, very happy so far. The initial request for a new web site still take a couple of seconds if I haven't been there before, but after that it's very quick to download. Uploads are much quicker, ie: sending emails or attachments. Also, my bandwidth test's have shown that FIOS is better suited to VOIP than Comcast because of its consistancy and faster download/upload rates. Comcast is choppy during the downloads in both speed and round trip/pause times and FIOS isn't.

I'll know more about all that and how it applys to real life after a week or so. Comcast & Vonage has had a little choppiness and distortion in audio at times, especially while downloading for us. Also, daytime faxes have been a problem with Comcast using VOIP. Time will tell if that is solved or not.

FIOS avail at 98203, Glenwood & Mukilteo Blvd

Scott1000 : FIOS just became available on Madrona Ave (Glenwood & Mukilteo Blvd, 98203 area). Quoted my premise install only 3 days out. Scheduled for 02/06/2008. They said they would call ahead of that date to work out details, so hopefully all will be a go. Service offered at up to 30 dn/15 up, but no TV yet. Bundling with phone service adds $17/mo to the 15/15 plan. One or Two year commitment get's first month free and $10-20/mo off pricing plan and a $20 gift card, which basically covers the $20 activation fee. Wireless router included. So the 15/15 plan is first month free, $54.99 months 2-7 and $64.99 months 8-12 then supposedly $72.99 there after. Be ready (when calling in) to get the better online pricing from them. They didn't offer it or even seem aware of it.

Took aprox 3 1/2 months from orange tubing to install date and aprox 1 month after fiber was loaded from the Verizon truck into the tubes.

ggoose_69 : I just had the inst completed...fantastic is the only word that I can say. The tech was here right on time. She told me what she was going to do and we talked about the placement of the ONT and running the cable over to my computer. She told me I was getting the newer ONT which I thought was nice. Then I left her to get on with it. The ONT inst on the side of the house is very clean, very professional. She ran the cable through the garage and was able to swap out the existing cable/phone plate I have in the den to account for the new jack. She told me she had to config the service so the phone line would be down for a few mins. When she was done with the inst of the hardware another tech who must have been in the area stopped by. They came in we talked about the service and got the computer hooked up. Did a little speed test and it was done.
I ordered the 5/2 service to start with and quickly realized I really wanted the 15/2. The speed bump will happen tomorrow. Along with the new package pricing on the fios site.
Thanks you did a great job !!!!!
