Horrible quality

When I call from any phone my sunrocket phone it sounds like crap. Even the voicemail is totally choppy.

Anyone else?

no problem here. if your voicemail was also choppy it might be the quality of your isp connection at that moment on time.

No. I am calling from another phone, it rings and then it goes to my voicemail. That has nothing to do with my internet when I am calling it from a landline totally unrelated to sunrocket.

My voice mail was always crappy and choppy. SR voice quality is an on and off thing for me, but mostly poor. After eight months, I gave up and ported number to Vonage. Great voice and voice mail quality as is the CallVantage service I now have. Still have $9.95 SR service but I will be dropping that soon. I don't know what to say. Seems to be a hit or miss thing with people. Some swear it's the greatest thing, others like me don't think much of it.

This is the reason I left sunrocket, I could never get the quality to my liking. I switched to »www.voicestick.com and they seem to have much better quality. I am not really sure why because my setup is almost the exact same thing, maybe their switch is closer or something.

Looks interesting but too bad they do not support Linux.

I've been with Sunrocket for a few months and it's been absolutely terrible. I have Verizon FIOS Internet (and TV) and SR call-quality is VERY unreliable. Everyone that gets my voicemail complains it is static and about 80% of the voicemail messages are also static. I really want reliable phone service and am seriously considering going with Verizon (only b/c I don't want to deal with potential problems from Vonage, etc.) Thoughts??

SunRocket and Vonage are not the only VOIP providers out there. Consequently, Verizon need not be your default alternative. See

Just in case you don't know about this tip... when I first signed up and got my equipment I heard my callers perfectly but they could not hear me well. I learned that one particular setting on the gizmo, accessed through the web interface, needed to be increased in order to allow more upload speed and that made all the difference. I made 1 call to customer service, they helped me make the change, and now my quality is great. This assumes, of course, that you have a stable high-speed Internet connection and that there are no other issues. I had no other issues and my QOS tests show I get from 85% to 99% quality, and I'm happy with the voice quality.

Lately, call quality has been poor more than 50% of the time.

The easy answer is simply NOT to use their voice mail! My answering machine works just fine, isn't dependent on the vagaries of their systems, and lets me know right away whether calls are actually making it to the house or getting lost in the ether.

For what it's worth, my SR phone service quality has continued to be just fine throughout the recent web site collapse. I've never had much to complain about regarding their overall voice quality (notwithstanding pops, clicks, latency, and some other phenomena that have improved with time).

1) How do you have your sunrocket setup? Is the "gizmo" in front of the router or behind the router? This can affect call quality immensely.

2) What is you ISP's advertised badnwidth ?

These all can affect your call quality.

The problem is the voicemail, this happens even with the gizmo unplugged.

"When I call from any phone my sunrocket phone it sounds like crap. Even the voicemail is totally choppy."

This reads to me that both voice mail and phone are choppy.
however if what you are saying is you call using a land line to get your voice mail and that is choppy you have a good complaint. If you use you your sunrocket phone then my questions are still valid.
