The reason I use the webmail is because then I dont have to deal with outlook/thunderbird/etc. While these solutions were once superior in everyway to webmail, they are now 'on-par'. (Besides this ad bullshit)
When I use the webmail I don't have to physically download whatever e-mail's to my own computer. The webmail system blocks all images for me. The webmail system doesn't have any extra bloat that even outlook express has. Etc..
Also don't have to deal with the seemingly random pop3/smtp access issues that users here complain about occassionally.
I haven't tried the yahoo mail beta, but the current version I'm just fine with. (Besides bullshit ads now). I'm the kind of person that keeps their computer ultra-clean, so if I can go by without installing outlook or thunderbird, I will do just that.
As for using gmail or any other number of online services. Why? I don't want gmail. I want the system that I allready have that works just fine.
Spam? The spamguard (at least for me) works excellent. It rarely catches something it shouldn't, and only once in a great while will I get the penile enlargement mail in my inbox. And that fake-address type system with the yahoo mail is wonderful. I can create a new address to use on various sign-up forms on sites, so my real one doesn't get spammed.
I love the system, but this ad nonsense is unreal. I'm perfectly fine with those little ads on the left-side there, but that big piece of shit that takes up 1/4 of my 1440*900 display is a goddamned joke. |

| I have never used an adblocker... because I believe sites I visit that I am not paying for deserve to get advertising revenue
My apologies to all those sites - because I have now installed the Firefox extension AdBlockPlus
ByeBye annoying right bar nasty ads
I also called ClearSky for a quote - I can't get higher speed with DSL - too far from the CO.... I would be more than willing to pay the current $35 per month for the highest DSL speeds. So, I know ClearSky will be higher... it just depends on preceived value for the increased cost
So, instead of adding revenue to the AT&T coffers the ad business may have just pushed me to another provider
BTW, if you are using Firefox I highly recommend the AdBlockPlus extension. It won't do anything with the left bar ads - but those aren't as objectionable
And to the silly analogy of newspaper ads... yep thats one of the reasons I don't get a newspaper - not to mention the fact the news is already stale by the time it reaches me. |
