| Patent profiteering on security patches
A company named Intellectual Weapons is hoping to cash in on the software patent trolling business by attempting to patent security patches on high profile products from companies with deep pockets:
»securitywatch.eweek.com/patches/···ies.html -- "The trouble with computers, of course, is that they are very sophisticated idiots." - Doctor Who (from Robot) We are the Hacker Collective: Resistance Is Futile - All Your AACS Keys Will Be Assimilated. |

| Microsoft (and Apple) was already sued for "Method and system for distributing updates by presenting directory of software available for user installation that is not already installed on user station" (6,557,054).
It just never ends for them, does it? Probably MS is like they are because they have to pay licensing fees for every little line of code they have, including strings 'cause i'm sure someone holds the patent for "outputting text onto the screen". |

| reply to Doctor Four Once again a shining example of why the Patent Office needs huge freaking reform. Once upon a time you needed to submit a physical model of your invention in order to get a patent, I think we need to get back to that as the language used in patents anymore is simply fluff that could mean anything. I'm convinced that the patent office is now firmly under the control of lawyers as yet another weasel legal money making venture for them and solely for them. The patent office no longer has any benefit to society.
