 The old Westell 2200 did the same thing as the 6100 when the rain came - no connection while the light rain passed through. Call Customer Service and described the problem. They are sending me a Netopia modem at no charge. So we'll see if that corrects the problem. |

Kings Mountain, NC | I think you will like the Netopia much better. In my opinion it is a lot more stable even when there are no storms in the area. I've been using the Netopia 2241N for over a month now and have had no issues with it.

I have the Westell 6100 bridged with my router. God forbid it storming tomorrow, ugh. =) I may resort to smashing it if it angers me enough, seeing as I have a spare Westell to do whatever I want with it.  |

I can't believe it!! I specifically asked for a Netopia and the rep said they'd send one out and it got here in 2 days. Great service but the wrong one!!  |

I first called the "Service" department and he said the software would only allow him to select "Westell". He stated he thought sales could select a Netopia. After being transfered to another 3 people I finally got to DSL Sales only to hear. Sorry we don't send out Netopia any more only Westell.

If they are charging you for the new modem I would arrange to return it.
I found my Netopia 2241N at Ebay for $15.00. It was a model from Bellsouth that was never used.
It is my understanding that Bellsouth shipped the Netopia modem only to Business DSL customers. I do not know about AT&T.
A friend of mine recently got DSL Lite under the $10 plan and he received the Westell 6100, but the one he received is much smaller than the older 6100 I have. So far he has not had any problems with it.

I got my Netopia from AT&T about three or four weeks ago. Keep calling back until you get the right person. Most of the time thats works. I'm very surprised that they are sticking with the Westell modem with all of the problems that they are having with this modem.

We have had the same issue with our Westell 6100 for months now, every time a thunderstorm would come near the house we would lose sync, that's even if it wasn't actually storming here at our home.
But last week it got worse. We had a storm come through that would cause our phones to ring with every lightening strike and after that storm if anyone called the house the modem would then lose sync.
After calling to report the issue ATT sent a tech out to test our inside wiring because they claimed that our problem had to be on our side of the NID. The tech showed up and did his thing and our inside wiring tested fine and naturally the Westell decided to be an angel and play nice when calling the house using our cellphones while he was here, staying in sync the entire time. He was nice enough to leave his card with a personal number on it in case we had an issue after he left and sure enough later that night someone calls and we lose sync.
He came back the next morning first thing and I was able to demonstrate and repeat the issue while he was here. After changing out filters to no avail he went out to his truck and swapped our Westell 6100 out for a new Netopia modem and to be honest, we haven't had any problems from inclement weather since. |

Is it a good idea to get the retail version of the Netopia 2241N-006? I know Bellsouth/ATT-SE won't support it if it doesn't have the Bellsouth firmware, but the Bellsouth version is hard to find unless you want a used one. |
