Aside from the fact that your new modem is reporting interleaved...what changed? Maybe you should give it a try and not be so fast to take on the headache of trying to get it removed.
The throughput and connection stability seem to be okay, but I was pinging 25 ms to one of my favorite sites, but now, I'm getting about 50 ms to it =/ I use VoIP on occasion, so I'd like to have my connection to have good ping rates and all. I guess I'm just a bit of a perfectionist. *shrug*

I am scratching my head as to why my stats seem to be a bit worse with the NEW Westell. Both are up to date with the latest firmware as far as I know, and I haven't changed anything physically in my connection.

The new E90 model reads 58.0 db attenuation, while my C90 reads 56.0 db attenuation. If I had to blame being placed on interleaved due to another cause...here would be my speculations..

1. Line deterioration somewhere nearby
2. I found my drop dug up today when I was in the backyard. It looks undamaged and fine, but I need to get it back in the ground, asap.

2Wire's are famous for that. When they work, they're great. Unfortunately, once they get a few years on them, they'll sometimes go wonky.

I found my Netopia 2241N at Ebay for $15.00. It was a model from Bellsouth that was never used.

It is my understanding that Bellsouth shipped the Netopia modem only to Business DSL customers. I do not know about AT&T.

A friend of mine recently got DSL Lite under the $10 plan and he received the Westell 6100, but the one he received is much smaller than the older 6100 I have. So far he has not had any problems with it.

I could almost agree with that. I swear, any kind of distant or nearby thunder is torture for my Westell 6100. My old, clunky 2Wire, however, doesn't have a problem with it.

That makes me feel better. I had FP&L put a "whole house" protector in a couple of years ago and wasn't quite sure how well it would actually work. I also use individual surge protectors for all my electronics.

I manufactured and sold surge protectors for many years and still remember the claims from customers that we had to pay for.

I got my Netopia 2241N-006 in the mail today vis UPS. It only took me about five minutes to get it up and going. We have not had any thunderstorms in a few days, but we are expecting some tomorrow. I hope we get some rain because we need some badly. I'll keep you posted!
UPDATE:

We got some thunderstorms in the state today, but none of them are close enough for me to see if I have any problems with losing sync. So far, the modem is holding up really well. We will see...I'll keep you posted! :)

When I run the Tweak Tester here on BBR, it shows my MTU as 1448. I can set my adapter to 1492, save, exit, restart and check the Tweak Tester and setting always shows 1448. The SN on mine I think is just a false reading from the modem, because sometimes mine is 1.5, 4.00, 6.50 and bounces around. I was talking to the help desk a couple of weeks ago and they said my SN ratio was 21.5 and told me not to worry about it. Even when mine shows 1.5 I still have good download speeds and never loose sync.

Once I set this the modem automatically updated itself and then reconnected.

We've not had any storms in the area today for me to judge how it will do during those conditions. I will post back when I know.

You are correct. And while her computer is equipped with a 56k dialup modem, what you may not know is that my mother, in her 80s, is feeble and does not see as weell as she formerly did. She can't get down to check or move phone cables. She's not at all technical. I had the DSL modem and router set at a height that she could easily reach to swap in a new modem with my guidance by phone. If only they had shipped the same model they had originally provided, something they are clearly able to do since they stll ship the Westell, she would be online right now.

I am confident the differences between the setup of the Westell and Netopia are minor. But minor is a big deal when she can't tell me adequately what she is seeing, and I have no good reference. I am happy to drive the 50 miles door to door to supportr mom. But I can't do it in the middle of the work week. A simple over-the-phone task turned into a must wait until the weekend task.

That is not at all right and while I am guessing about this IMO the problem is outside of your home that is not to say there may be problems in the home adding to this trouble.

Rain does not seem to be a problem.
I thinking it is related to rain lightning would be either a short loss of sync or boom and it’s all over.

Can anything be done to fix this problem?

I recommend unplugging the computer system and unplugging the phone cord from the modem during lightning storms. Computer components generally do not like lightning. I have lost several cards and modems during lightning storms.

Odd sync rates you're getting too. Mind posting us a connection log? I had this same problem before. Though, the only way I solved mine was through using a different modem (not a Westell)..? The tech said nothing could be done about my problem, simply because my line attenuation was too high (57.5, as read by Westell), but I proved him wrong. =]

Whenever a storm is within 20 I start losing sync. As the storm gets closer I lose sync completely. Sometimes it can be down for two hours or more....depending on the storm. Rain does not seem to be a problem. Can anything be done to fix this problem?
