ja5219 join:2006-11-27 Hickory, NC | Getting Upgraded Hey all
So happy to see that in the mail today, we got a notice from AT&T that our Package "DSL lite" will be automatically upgraded from 256K to 768K on Saturday June 16th. They recommend you restart your modem that day.
Would people around my area get the upgrade at the same time? or do they go account by account on this one?
Glad to see we get an upgrade! ^_^ |

 | reply to questioningsoul Yeah it's sync's at 768k. But a good technician will always tell what speed you can get. I always tell my customer's if they can get a higher speed or not. 9 out of 10 want the higher speed. |

OlegBellsouth FastaccessPremium join:2003-12-08 Birmingham, AL | reply to ja5219 Well I would take this deal for sure for web surfing and downloading small files. Back In 2000 I wanted to get another phone line then I have found modem on hold software |

What is the upload on this? Is it 128k like the 256/128 DSL Lite?
I currently have BSFA but maxsync isn't working out for me (far from CO) so I have a lot of dropouts... I don't need more than 768k, so, if I downgrade to Lite, will my sync rate go to 768k? My line can handle that. |
|
 | Well... the concern they had would be how many could go from 256k to 768k without any major issue. 512k was also a proposed speed tier. But the idea was always to increase the speed. Keeping in mind that DSL Lite was always an introductory tier for those who wanted slightly better than dial-up always on internet or those who couldn't get the higher tiers.
I can think of a few neighborhoods in my city who are going to have issues. But it'll be great for those who can't get 1472 with stability. |

This is off a BellSouth Business Bill notice, but it should be that same for residential. Hope this clarifies.
said by BellSouth Bill : We have good news to announce! AT&T is increasing the speed of its FastAccess Business DSL Lite service. Effective June 18, 2007, the downstream speed for FastAccess Business DSL Lite is increasing from a maximum of 256Kbps to a new maximum of 768Kbps. All this will happen automatically, at NO EXTRA COST to you! That means you may start to see faster e-mail with attachments; faster graphics; faster software upgrades; and even faster video streaming for your business. That also means more time to focus on your business and less time waiting. In order to receive the maximum benefits of this speed increase, you will need to turn off, then turn back on, your modem or router after the June 18 change. If you have any issues with the downstream speed you experience after that time, please make sure you have turned your modem or router off and back on prior to calling the FastAccess Help Desk. Please note that there are no changes to your present upstream speeds. If you would like to take advantage of faster upstream speeds, AT&T has special offers on faster FastAccess Business DSL speeds available. Just call us at 1-866 815-5292 for more information. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

hihi9 join:2007-05-06 Port Orange, FL | reply to currentcustomer Thought its being advertised as 768/128 and for every other region as well no one sync at 768/128 but at 768/384. It's possible that the higher tier may get an upload boost to 1.5/384, 3.0/512, and 6.0/768 in the near future. Your download speed may decrease to match advertising speed so some may have better stability that are on the borderline. That's for everyone to decide whether to make all speed package the same nationwide. This is not a confirmed yet but the change will happen quicker if everyone in BS region demands it. I prefer faster upload over faster download because it takes less time to upload large file. At 600kb/sec vs 800kb/sec it's still plenty fast. How many can download at 800kb/sec 24hrs a day to make it really that useful? They are equally important, you can't have too much down and too little up or vice versa. |

OlegBellsouth FastaccessPremium join:2003-12-08 Birmingham, AL | What makes you think you can download at 600kb/sec it does not work this way you can download file at about 80kbs. |

Re: Getting Upgraded Prices of faster DSL services are not being AT&T hopes a price cut will spur dial-up users to switch to high-speed Internet service.
AT&T on Friday announced a limited-time promotion in which it is shaving $5 from the monthly cost of entry-level DSL for new users in the Southeast. At $19.95, the price is the same as its dial-up service.
The promotion runs through June 30 and also includes $75 cash back. The $19.95 price isn't an introductory rate and isn't slated to increase.
The deal targets customers in the nine Southeastern states formerly served by BellSouth, which AT&T bought in December. AT&T also is boosting the speed of what it calls FastAccess DSL Lite from 256 kilobits per second to 768 kbps.
The change is meant to lure people from dial-up to digital subscriber lines, or DSL. The use of broadband Internet service has been growing, although the United States still has a sizable population of dial-up users.
Existing users of FastAccess DSL Lite won't be able to enjoy the new price they'll have to keep paying $24.95 per month. They will, however, get the higher speeds introduced as part of the promotion.
Prices of faster DSL services are not being lowered.
Even with the promotional price break, AT&T users in other parts of the country have access to similar service for less. Those outside BellSouth's former territory can subscribe to AT&T's Basic DSL for $14.99 per month.
For now, AT&T Internet customers also must maintain a landline phone. By year's end, that will change, as AT&T is expected to provide DSL for $19.95 without having to maintain a phone line.
AT&T agreed to this option known as "naked," or stand-alone, DSL as part of an agreement with the Federal Communications Commission. The concession on naked DSL was one of several the FCC sought prior to giving AT&T a sign-off to acquire BellSouth.
To satisfy the FCC, AT&T must offer naked DSL by the end of 2007. Company spokeswoman Dawn Benton declined to provide a more specific date. |
