edit - never mind - I figured it out. I did it manually though, copying the url from my Fx setup. Is there an easier way? Thanks, Rick.
Oops, just missed you edit.

No there isn't an easier way. You can't use the auto-install links in T-bird unless someone emailed them to you (would they?) Fortunately you only have manually do it once.

rick, can you explain why I would need the ABP & tracking filters enabled in Thunderbird? Is it to block huge images?
I don't think I get much of that via email tbh....

I use ABP in Tb just to block the random ads some companies I allow to email me embed in their correspondence.

Blockbuster, BMG etc...

Other then that ABP is hardly noticed.

hmmm...I usually direct all that stuff to a gmail account that I don't access via POP with TB, but just access via fx
Ok, so then I really have no need for that.
Thanks for the clarification GK!

I'm using Adblock, can I utilize these filters also? I'm currently using the G filter only. What advantage and/or disadvantages would I experience if I changed to Adblock Plus?

Thanks, bshark

rick752 See Profile can probably correct me if I'm wrong but the filters were written with ABP (Adblock Plus) in mind.

This explains Filterset G. and Adblock a litte bit: »adblockplus.org/en/faq_project#adblock

Thanks for your reply Lanik. I would be interested in hearing if I can use other filtersets with my Adblock. I see I can import with it. I also noticed that my AB version hasn't been updated in a year. I'm not sure if that matters or not. I sorta adhere to your quote. "If it ain't broke don't fix it." Lol I'm sure there are advantages to using the Plus version.

Heh Didn't know anyone still read that low.

Anyways some links: »adblockplus.org/en/screenshots and »adblockplus.org/en/history

You could use the Adblock you have however you'd have to basically rewrite the filters to suit your needs. If you ask me the original Adblock was great for its time but it had only a few features and no room for improvement, but ABP is a different story. In any case judge for yourself, you could always try it out a few days and see how it goes if you don't like it just remove it no harm no foul.

Yeh, I read quotes as that gives me an idea of what or who I'm dealing with Lol.

I'm trying ABP with EasyList, EasyElement, and ABP Tracking Filters. So far so good. I checked the status bar option because I guess I don't have a toolbar anymore after my tweaking. I'll have to have a peak at the other filtersets to see if they would benefit me. Thank you Lanik

The old Adblock cannot use the entire EasyElement filter at all! It doesn't understand those rules. It also will not recognize any special '$switches' at the end of regular strings in the EasyList and ABP Tracking Filter (eg: 'doubleclick$script'.

These lists MUST be be used only with ABP.
(ps: you can remove the G updater too as ABP has autoupdating built-in for the subscriptions.

Thanks Rick for your response about the compatibility. I removed the G updater also. Everything is working good so far.

AdBlock Plus slowing down my speed test results a lot.

Adblock Plus ('ABP') slowing down my speed test results a lot.

I've searched through the FAQ and open bugs (for 'slow') and see nothing relevant. Is this normal? Surely not.

MacBook Pro. AT&T DSL 1.5/384.

Firefox with AdBlock Plus (and DOM inspector and TalkBack) add-ons: current versions of all - just checked.

Consistently tests at at least 1.2/300 (1.2Mbps down (~= 1200 kbps), 300kbps up) with AdBlock plus disabled, using AT&T's speed tester :
I'm in SF, using »speedtest-snfcca.snfcca.sbcgloba···ge3.html
(from helpme.

With AdBlock Plus (no, I'm NOT using Filterset G; just the default setup, I think: Easylist - current (Sep 9) and an exception rule and 3 ad filters.)
I get slow results - they're variable:
200-800 down and 100-300 up (and occasionally double digits - dialup speed); 400/200 is typical.

Interestingly, it seems ABP doesn't really slow transfer speeds; the Activity Monitor shows download and upload speeds during the test are just fine (160KB down) whether ABP is on or off. But it DOES throw off the results of the tester, and may or may not slow down browsing speeds. With ABP off, I'm consistently getting much better results, as I said - over 1.2/300.

I've got FF 2.0.0.6, ABP 0.7.5.1 w/ EasyList, AT&T 3.0/512 and just speed tested to the AT&T Dallas site at 2.517/304, which is about what I was getting before installing ABP.
