Had HS, moved, what to get now?

I had HN for a few months before we sold our house in CA and moved to TN.

I hated the new FAP policy, and don't want to have to deal with that anymore. I have a couple choices here, either Comcast cable internet, or Embarq DSL. I don't know the difference between the two? Can anyone give me advice between Cable and DSL? What's better? What do I look for so I don't get into another contract like HN where they FAP me.

Cable should be faster than DSL, give it a try you can always switch to DSL later

Thanks. After looking at the sites, I did see that Comcast Cable advertises to be 5x faster then DSL and is almost double the price.

The good thing is, Comcast doesn't have a contract, where Embarq has a year contract.

I'll go ahead and tell Comcast to hook me up with cable and cable internet. THANKS!!!

On the one hand, paying only double for 5 times a much is sound econmics.

On the other hand, paying only double for 5 times as much of something you hardly ever use may not be so sound.

I have DSL, and apply the savings to nifty anime DVDs.

Yes, you're right about not needing all that speed, but the comment about a promo price is right too. I am going to go with Comcast first because I can get it for $19.99 a month for 6 months. The DSL might be all I need, but they don't offer any promo's and they want an annual contract, I am not willing to do a contract when I don't even know how the service is. So I'll try Comcast first, since they have to go out and hook up the cable TV too, and I might try DSL later on.

To all:

Do DSL/contract providers allow a paid "trial" period, say 30 days, during which one can back out of the contract if the service is not acceptable?

I believe that Verizon has such a trial period. OTOH, AT&T no longer offers cut rates with the contract service; contract, or no, you will pay the same price. I don't understand the advantage to anybody in the new AT&T scheme. But, you can order at&t Yahoo! HSI on a month-to-month basis at the same price as the contract.

I don't know about contracts with Embarq DSL, or Qwest DSL. I don't think that either AT&T Worldnet DSL (which is an entirely different service than at&t Yahoo! HSI), or Bellsouth (AT&T Southeast, which still has its own price plans in place) offer contracts.
