Nastygram Received

I got an email from Comcast about 1 DMCA violation for downloading a TV show that I don't remember downloading. Kind of scary that they can monitor everything you do. I am going to check with my friends to see what one of them was doing. The letter was pretty much a form letter from a few weeks ago. I rarely check my comcast email.

Should I be worried?

Not knowing what the letter says, most "First Time" letters are a warning.

Nuke the file(if it exists) and back off the downloading - although, most of the time "they" are bitching about you providing/having it available for others to obtain(uploading).

Investigate, see if one of your friends has been downloading and/or sharing(uploading) TV shows.

Curiosity... what show?

Comcast monitors nothing. The letter is in response to a complaint that Comcast received. Not to worry unless it is RIAA, in which case it is likely that a law suit has already been filed and they are subpoenaing Comcast to identify you.

I remember now, reviewing the date. I had a neighbor whose DSL was down and I allowed them to wirelessly use my connection for a weekend. I won't make that mistake again. It's not RIAA.

Right there is the problem!
It wasn't the downloading per se, but that the file was also being uploaded(BT does that).

Here's the pisser...

OK I talked to my neighbor today. And I made it a point to WATCH the show, which I'd barely heard of on the outskirts. I thought it was HILARIOUS and I am not a fan of American sitcoms, they are mostly stupid.

So what harm did this do? Get someone to watch a show that was not familiar with it? How stupid.

Its hard to gauge the impact and the damage it could do.

It is quite a good show....and as already pointed out available to view on line.
