i want to add a correction to the previous post: while it is true that in Puerto Rico you don't pay FEDERAL taxes, the local (state) taxes are more than double of the U.S. State and Federal Combined (i am a CPA, so i am familiar with both tax systems). also this year there is SALES taxes on everything - including food and groceries - unlike on the US where the groceries are not taxed.
regarding the "free" military, Puertorricans have served in the military and died in all wars since beginning of last century (after Jones act was established March 2, 1917) |

Well if you count Puerto Rico, which gets all the benefits of being a U.S. state including military protection without having to pay taxes, it's 51 states. |
