| [AZ] Loss of connectivity multiple times a day
All,
I know this problem is similar to other posts I have read so accept my apologies in advance as I am unable to resolve my connection issues.
Equipment OS: Windows XP Pro Modem: Linksys BEFCMU10 Router: Netgear WGT624 V3 Wired connection
Problem Summary Multiple times a day, I lose my internet connection. This has happened on the hardware listed above along with other computers in my home for many months. I have replaced both my modem and router along with the computer and the problem is consistent so this leads me to believe it is not a hardware issue.
When my connection is lost, I have to do one of the following to regain connectivity.
1.)Ping the router, reset connection. (This rarely works). 2.)I have 2 accounts in Windows. Sometimes logging off both accounts then logging back in will restore connectivity. (limited success on this method). 3.) Unplug the modem and router, wait, plug in modem then router (somewhat successful). 4.) Reboot computer. (most successful).
This happens so many times a day that I spend more time restoring my connection that actually using it.
I have contacted Cox and have had no success. They have replaced the cable to the house through to the modem, pinged my modem, etc. The problem will not go away so I am asking this forum for guidance on how to proceed with this issue. I am computer literate, however, I am far from an expert when it comes to network connectivity via my ISP.
One other thing to note is that I have friends/relatives close by (within a 2 mile radius) and they all have the same issue.
Any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated as I am at my wits end with this.
Thanks in advance! |

If rebooting the computer is the most succesful in restoring your connection it seems the problem is a internal network problem...
1. What version is the modem? 2.Have you bypassed the router to see if the problem goes away? 3. Is the connection Wired or Wireless? 4.Have you swapped the cat5 cable from the router to pc? 5.What devices connect to your network? 6. What are the levels on the modem? »192.168.100.1 |

It has been a while since I tried to bypass the router so I will give it a try again. I am currently using a wired connection. There are 3 computers (2 PCs and 1 Laptop) all wired into the router...no other devices.
Thanks! |

| ***** Update *****
It has been nearly a week since I disconnected my router and went directly through the modem (thanks to Matt@Cox for the quick response and assistance). So far my connection has not dropped as far as I have noticed.
Based on the above, I realize that the loss of connectivity has to be due to the router. So, I would like to ping the forum to get advice on what to do next. The Netgear router was my second router I have tried...the first was a Linksys. Both routers had the same behavior. How should I go about regaining my connectivity via a router without running into the same issues I had before? I have a TrendNet wireless-N router on its way since someone told me they have had success with this router (this replacing the router thing is getting pretty expensive).
Any suggestions? Is there a list of approved routers from Cox? Should I be changing some settings on the router besides the usual encryption settings?
Thanks! |

What is your network configuration?
What devices do you have connected and how (wired/wireless) |

| I just hooked up through the router again...so far, so good but time will tell if it works without dropping.
I don't have a home network configured. There are 2 PCs and 1 laptop connected to my router. The PCs are wired and the laptop is wireless through my Trendnet N-draft router (TEW-631BRP) using WPA security.
