| Irrelevant players making deals with the devil mean nothing to the Unix/Linux world. Red Hat will go on. Ubuntu will go on. The BSDs will go on. |

1 edit | reply to Linux help The Internet was conceived of and brought about 20 years before Microsoft even existed, on old mainframes and then VAX, UNIX, Linux, etc.
Microsoft is a relative newcomer in terms of actual time.
I had a MicroSoft Systems Hardcard DOS 1.0 in my homebuilt Dean Micro box in 1984...whoopee. I spent most time in Applesoft or Pascal anyways.
Let's see if they survive, the real work of IT/IS and the infrastructure of the world's connectivity is done on Solaris and GNU/Linux/BSD.

| reply to caffeinator Let's see if they survive, the real work of IT/IS and the infrastructure of the world's connectivity is done on Solaris and GNU/Linux/BSD. That's the important point.
Whether or not GUI intensive windows emulating versions of linux will survive, only time will tell. However there is a subsantial core of unix users out there who value a real operating system and who could not get their work done with the systems coming from Microsoft. These core users have no inclination to jump to eye-candy game playing systems. -- AT&T dsl; Westell 2200 modem/router; SuSE 10.1; firefox 2.0.0.4 |
