If your NID is older connection box, it should just take one call to 611 to request a new NID box. Typically, the telephone company will upgrade these upon a service call to the home. In my case, I reported static on the line. The came out and the *first* thing they did was upgrade the NID.
Sounds to me you haven't had any service calls in years. To lessen future troubles, they should gladly upgrade your NID.

| nope; I've never had any phone problems, except ONCE.
there was an extremely bad ice storm that went through (our area was declared a state of emergency). I lost phone service for about 2-3 days. I knew it had to do with the ice storm, so I didn't bother calling.
Besides that, there have never been any problems (and since they upgraded the Remote Terminal that I pull from and backed it by fiber....well, definitely no problems).
I might just wait until DSL becomes available; a tech told me that they'd upgrade it for free, if I ordered DSL. |
