Uverse buildouts... expect dropped line issues with POTS.

Those that live in areas with Uverse buildouts happening (i.e. VRAD being installed), expect outages with your existing POTS/DSL.

at&t's contractors killed my line twice in 1 week.
Tuesday, POTS was dead, DSL still worked, showed up as a 'short'. 5 hours later, techs repaired it, moved me to a new pair.

Saturday, I had no POTS or DSL (killed on Friday evening). Repaired Monday morning as contractors had moved my service to a dead pair.

Never had any issues here. Maybe the day labor force down there is more fresh where as the ones here have at least a few years under the belt.

The only time I lost POTS service during the build-out of U-verse in Houston was during my install when they got me connected up to the VRAD, and they told me that would happen.

The VRADs in my neighborhood are fairly new; one hasn't been turned up, yet. I don't recall any POTS trouble in the last six months; not that lasted long enough for me to get in a service call, anyway.

I had the same problem in Dallas. Lost POTS and DSL, earliest truck roll was 3 days later but it was fixed in 20 minutes after the tech arrived.

We have 3 land lines but only one was cut, unfortunately it was the DSL line.

Those larger beige boxes have been going in all over Houston for most of the past year. They just put one in my apartment complex a few weeks ago and the power meter has been in a couple weeks. I keep trying to sign up but I'm getting the "not available" thing from the Uverse website. Since Houston is going through the Time Warner-to-Comcast swap I don't want to deal with cable. From everything I've heard from people who have switched here in the Houston area Uverse is better anyway. I don't have a POTS line and so far my DSL hasn't gone out.

I found out that when my DSL typically drops, its about the same time as the cities automatic sprinklers hit the F2/VRAD. I suspect that its just noise from the pump, as my line returns to 'normal' right after its done. I hope this issue goes away with the VRAD and Uverse.

Those pictures look surreal. Are you in the Twilight Zone?

Maybe you just need to clean the lens.

LOL - looks like little fogged up.. but that wouldn't be the case in Palmdale/Lancaster (8% humidity).
AT&T have been up and down my street over the past week, knocking out my DSL on a hourly basis.

Power was added to the VRAD on Monday.
Now it looks like they're doing all the neighborhoods in the area - at least 4 more VRADs going up.

Notice the 'wet' area on the cinder block wall. When the city sprinklers go on, I typically lose sync on standard DSL.

Somehow, I don't see the link between the VDSL DSLAM and your ADSL connection dropping out, as the ADSL connection is not even going to that DSLAM.

It could be going through that cross-box, though...

I am sure his line is going through that cross connect, but the VRAD shouldn't have anything to do with his POTS line, unless some idiot tech did something with the termination of his pair, which is very possible.

En102, have you had any techs out to check your lines, and not just at your house, but at the cross connect too?

Ya-but...city sprinklers could affect the cross-box more than the VRAD.
