How Seti works :Optimizing : Creating Cache: Fixing no WUs

How it works and the need for time Limits for WUs

All the work units have about a 3 to 4 week completion time they need to have work done in a set period so that it can be compared with the others doing the same work unit about 4 people called a quorum do the same work unit for comparison and quality control. At least 3 of that group must agree upon the final results if not they will send out another one or two copies to get the results properly qualified.
The Boinc program checks completion dates and processes them based upon due dates.
So you see a time limit is very necessary to make it work otherwise nothing could be finalized.

The amount of time your computer takes to complete a WU will determine how many they will assign to your system per day.
It is all prefigured for your specific system and usage besides doing Seti@Home. After the Minimum of Three members of a Quorum have returned results and they check out the points are awarded.

The points are rated by eliminating the highest and lowest Then taking the next remaining value and awarding it to all successfully completed quorum members.

To set your Cache to have an adequate reserve of Work Units do the following

Just set your reporting time on your general preferences up to 10 days for reporting time. Your cache will always be full then for all your systems.

Go to your accounts page and select edit/view for general pref then the edit option then set the report time to 4 days or more. This will allow you to cache more WU. But will not stop your systems from doing regular reports and your systems will have their cache recharged at the same time to keep the cache filled at the level you have selected.

You can configure Seti to work only when you want also.

Go to general preferences and then select edit and you have a whole host of configuration settings and special ones for lap tops as well.

I am only getting one WU at a time when I should be getting several.

this is the problem and the fix.

On the one you have that is only getting 1 or 2 WUs at a time. Check the Bionc folder and see if it has a Global Pref_XML page.
It is a Bug with the Boinc program that at times it does not generate that file.

If you don't have it copy it from one of your computers that is getting it's cache filled. It is a generic file that has your preference page options once you add it restart Boinc and do an update you should get your proper reserve of WUs after that.

Or download it here

Make sure to optimize your systems you production rate and completion times will improve greatly.

This new revision supersedes the previously released Rev. 1.3 and Rev.2.0 apps for all systems

Prior to any optimization exit from boinc.

Version 2 Optimizer are now zipped in a different Zip program called 7-zip here is the link

Recommendation for the Conroe optimization is to create a new folder unzip to there then copy and paste to the Boinc>projects>setiathome, berkeley, edu folder.
If it says over writing files say yes.

All other optimization clients just unzip to:
Boinc>projects>setiathome,berkeley,edu folder.

Then restart boinc and do a CPU benchmark and then do an update
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have an AMD XP 64 3800+, I seem not to get as good of completion as my 2.0Ghz pentium M. Can someone shed some light on this, Also neither have been optimized.

The method that AMD systems use to compute the WU is not as efficient as the Intel style of processing in this case.

AMD uses linear symmetrical processing which is great for Gaming and some other Boinc clients in which Intel performs poorly.

Intel uses non-linear and asymmetrical processing which happens to be just the exact match for the Seti and Einstein clients. Which make better use of asymmetrical memory usage and data lengths.

The Clients in use directly from Berkeley have to be generic in format so they can run on any AMD or Intel CPU.

The optimized clients that are offered to us from other than Berkeley are approved by Berkeley and custom fitted to the exact format for each individual processors most efficient computation process, they are more efficient and waste less processor time by eliminating unnecessary steps in computations.

No Graphics in BOINC?

How do I enable the show graphics button in BOINC manager? It is currently grayed out and I cannot click on it?

Are you using an optimized client? Have you installed the optimized client without graphics? Because there is two versions one with and one without the screen saver.
