Photobook for a cause

For some reason I have been thinking of this for the past few days. Anyone know how this is progressing? I know we had an update thread back in November or December but I have not seen or heard much since then.

I don't know what the staus is either. I know Jason has been real busy with his family and that has probably what has side tracked the project. At this point it might be better to start from scratch and do it all over.

Sorry about the lack of updates. We got as far as picking out what photos would be included in the book, but then it kind of fizzled out as my family issues took priority. If anyone wants to take over from here, I'd be willing to pass the torch. (I would still lend my web development skills to the project, however.)

My main problem at this point is my inexperience putting together a photobook. I put one together for a teacher who was leaving my son's daycare, but I hardly think that that experience qualifies me for putting together a photobook representing the fine photographers that we have here. Is there anyone out there with experience putting together photobooks who would like to donate their time putting this one together?

I wish I had the experience, I would hate to see this die. Hopefully someone will be able lend a hand

When you say no experience putting a photo book together, what are you looking for in the book? No, I've never put one together but figure it can't be that hard... is it?

If I'm coming across as bashing you on the head, please forgive me, that isn't my intent. You should be commended for your hard work that you've put into this.

What I mean is that I really have no clue as to how to group the photos together to make the book look the best it can be. I can toss them all together and have it look passable. It might even look good to the Average Joe (like my one photobook looked good to my son's teacher). However, I have a feeling that someone who has done more photobooks than I have would be able to choose the positioning and size of the photos better than I could.

Okay. Sorry for being so thick skulled. I don't have that experience either. I commend you for your effort, I know it wasn't easy, particularly with your family issues getting so complcated as well.

I agree, you have put so much into this not to mention everything else you had going on.

Bumping this, I would like to know if anyone is willing to help Jason with this project? Is anyone still interested in the project at all? This project won't complete itself and it's alot of work to ask one person to do it all. Anyone out there willing to provide some assistance?

I think most people feel the same as me and you. I'm willing to help, but really have no clue as to what the hell to do or how to go about it. Maybe we can just take it one step at a time, and see about getting volunteers for each step? For example, right now the layout seems to be the next step needed. Maybe a we can get a few people (approved by Jason) to do a layout, and pass it on to Jason for final approval? Maybe do it via a Winkflash account set up just for this, with the password only given to those approved, who can then create separate book layouts? Probably a better way, but the first thing to come to my mind, and maybe just enough to get the ball rolling. I'd be willing to help at this stage. I have no clue, but maybe between me and my g/f we can come up with something. Anyone with any other ideas? I'd hate to think that with all of the bright people we have around here, no one can do better than me, lol.

Well, 2 years on my schools yearbook staff in HS, 3 years running my own copy center and being a big fan of scrap booking doesn't count as specific photo book experience but it gives me some place to start from. in short I'd be willing to help with layout.

I am a contradiction in terms. Good luck.

I think that is exactly the type of help Jason is looking for. and it's not a dead horse if there's even one person still interested in getting this accomplished.

It might not be a bad idea to have a short second call for entries- there are a lot of new images out there.

I'd be willing to help out. However, I really have NO skills. If there's something a complete n00b can do, I'd be happy to try.

Awesome! Thanks for the offers to help! If Jason hasn't seen the thread, I'll send him a little IM to let him know we've got more victims... er... volunteers.

I will also try to keep the momentum going and get regular updates, unless Jason tells me other wise.

That might not but specific photo book experience, ErthBndAngel, but it's closer than anything I have.

I think the second call for images is a good idea also. We'll keep any that have already been selected for inclusion, but then will open the doors for new images to be selected. I'll try to post a "Round 2" thread this week.
