Google is an information/application company

They don't want to be getting too much into the hardware business.. their main mission is information embedded into as many technologies as possible. Paid for by spammers (I mean advertisers)

I personally think that once Google has the information pipeline where they want it, they will go into hardware big time. One thing they have unique to them is almost a cult following which for the large part has made Apple what it is today.

Actually, they just outsourced the only hardware business they were in - building Google search appliances(PC servers) for businesses. They outsourced that to Dell.

I don't think that they have any plans to get in to the hardware business for the reasonable future.

Hardware fabrication, yes. Google still retains the design piece.

I like Google, but I'll never buy an overpriced piece of equipment like the Mac, regardless of what name you slap on it. The only way to become a Microsoft killer in the hardware arena is to compete on price. As long as Apple continues to market itself as "we're better, but you gotta pay alot more for better", the status quo will remain unchanged.

Jobs needs to get off his high horse and sell OSX to the general public, i bet if done right it would work out fine and be stable still.
