The common household claw hammer has been used as a murder weapon countless times, but because the volume of its constructive usage far outweighs that of its misuse, nobody thinks ill of this handy tool. The same used to be true for the common pocket knife. It's not clear why society now views this handy tool primarily as a weapon, as it's more useful than ever (think 'blister packaging'), and any previous abuses of this "very hard to be lethal, even if you try hard" tool have given way to handgun violence and road rage. It's pretty much the same story for P2P.
To me, the greater, and far more important issue is about how and why a nation that was once second to none in technological advances, and the quality of life that they brought, has degenerated into a bunch of ignorant 'fraidy cats. |
