This is the reason I will never pay for a service up-front. Sure it may cost a bit more, but when they go under and you cannot get your free year, you just don't really save that much.
Some risks are worth taking. Paying up front for 2 years at SR (as I did) costs the same as 8 months of going month-to-month. So if the company can survive for more than 8 months one is ahead by paying up front even if you don't get the full 2 years of service.
$24.95 per month is not just a "bit more" than $8.29 per month.
