Verizon renamed vodafone?

If vodafone buys out verizon does that mean a switch to GSM and rebranding like AT&T did with cingular?

Re: Verizon renamed vodafone?

No you misread it.

Verizon Wireless , is owned by VZ and Vodaphone. 62% and 38%.

I said this would happen a year or so ago. VZ will purchase as much of VZW as possible. As long as they remain separate entities VZ can hold VZW and use VZW profits to pad their bottom line while rolling out FIOS.

Beautiful play by Ivan if they get the ok. Truly a smart man.

I wish Vodaphone would buy out verizon, unfortunately its going in the other direction. Verizon needs to join the gsm/wcdma bandwagon.

As did you - 38% is the ownership that Vodaphone *would* still have if they sold off $10 billion of VZW to VZ.

According to the article, currently VZ has a 55% stake in VZW; that means Vodaphone currently owns 45%.

not me im more then happy with my cdma phones thank you very much.

GSM while being a world standard is starting to show it's age. They are simply selling to many phones using gsm and queueing up on the towers to connect is getting horrendous in most metro areas.

I don't get the repeated mention of Verizon switching to GSM if bought. What exactly would someone be buying if they had to get rid of VZ's entire CDMA network? Just the customers?

Of course the flip side of that is that CDMA can degrade to the point where you are paying for the call but it is unintelligable. WCDMA, when/if it rolls outs based on resolution of the Qualcomm/Broadcom dispute, will put the two technologies in the same ballpark. It will probably take 4G to finally unify under one technology.

Verizon regardless of cdma, has to move to newer technology GSM forced operators to move to a MAP core based system, which supports all types of new technology. Verizon still uses an ANSI core. Either way Verizon is going to have to move to a more modern internal network.

If Verizon did switch, they would support both networks until the conversion was complete. Telstra in Australia is doing the exact thing. Converting from Cdma to Gsm/wcdma/3gsm.
