 | [billing] 768K plan - price jack-up Anyone else on the 768K plan have their price jacked up from $14.95 to $21.95 or did they just do it to me?
Last month was the final month of my 1 year agreement so I was expecting a price increase this month but to $19.95 not $21.95! |

| reply to UberGeorge I've been a Verizon DSL customer for years, have the 1500/384 plan. Been paying $29.95 per month annual contract. Just renewed for another year at that price.
One thing that confused me was it appeared I was double billed in May. Called Verizon On-line turns out they switched from billing in arrears to forward billing like the voice service. Not sure if that change affects everyone or was just here in NH.

 | reply to UberGeorge In NoVA, I was able to get 768/128 for 17.99 a month. Upgragded to 1.5/384 for 32.99 (37.99 after 1st year). Of course, my "1.5M" down has been more like 800K for the last week, so I'm not exactly sure what I'm paying for. |
|
 | reply to UberGeorge Yes...they've increased their prices here in Santa Monica, CA too.
I've been loyal to them through all the trials and tribulations of their beginning DSL (1993 GTE)and they repay that loyalty with a kick in the *ss.
I'm 72 and on limited income...and they couldn't care less. I feel like they've tossed me away like a piece of garbage.
My brother went elsewhere...my daughter went elsewhere...a few friends did as well. Now it's time for me to look around. I hope their GREED pays them off. -- To be of words & not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds... |

 | reply to UberGeorge I had the $14.95 introductory plan. About a month before my contract was up I received the following email from Verizon:
Dear Verizon Customer, Our records indicate that you currently subscribe to a Verizon Online DSL 768k Annual Plan and that your one-year commitment has been completed or will soon be completed. We appreciate your business and we look forward to continuing to serve you. Verizon Online If I had not seen that email, I would have been charged $21.99 a month. Verizon informed me I had to commit to another 1 year contract to get a cheaper rate of $19.99 a month. I found an online Verizon ad that stated, "I could keep my same low price", if I renewed my contract before my existing contract expired.
When I tried to renew at the $14.95 rate, Verizon didn't want to honor it, and tried to get me to switch to Fios, which is offered in my area. I told them I was happy with my DSL, at $14.95. Verizon told me they were not offering a DSL yearly plan in my area, because Fios was available. After many phone calls to Verizon, they said they would let me have a 1 year DSL contract, but the rate would be $19.99 a month. I kept referencing the online ad, but they refused to honor it. I kept arguing the point, and stood my ground. After many more phone calls, I finally I spoke to a level 2 Billing supervisor in "Fios" who said they would honor the $14.95 a month. It seems Fios, and DSL billing are being combined under fios billing in the NY metro area. Long story short: I still have the $14.95 plan. But the only way it could be done was to give me a monthly credit for the difference between $14.95 and $19.99. I didn't care how it was done, just so long as it was! Needles to say I haven't seen that, "keep the same low rate" ad anymore. |

 | Ok then, I'm going to see if I can't get another year contract at $19.95 |
|
 | reply to twbartender You qualify for FIOS but still want to keep your DSL?? |
|
 | gower2352,
As much as I'd like to have it, I really don't need it. I was using dial-up until a year ago. DSL only started being offered in my area, about a year and a half ago. I tried to get it at that point, but the CO was incapable of handling any new customers. It took almost 6 months before I was able to order it. In February of this year, Fios became available in my area. I did subscribe to Fios TV using the other telephone line in my home. (Second Account) When it was installed, the wireless router, and battery back-up for the phone, were put in place. If I decide I need the speed, most of the equipment is already installed. But right now $14.95 a month sounds better then $39.99.

I called billing they said its 39.99 for 768/ 138 for where i live.. If i don't like it the can cancel any time..Or sign up from a year contract. I don't want to sign up. I can't get cable so I am stuck. Filing with the BBB might be a option. I will have to call them and see what they say. is every one bill worded the same ? Mine says enhanced Verizon DSL (B) 39.99 |

I think that is the misunderstanding - I and I assume most of the other posters were talking about year contract price. Given the large difference in price makes sense to opt for the year, $360 per year vs $480.
Since you cannot get Cable what other options do you have? Why the reluctance to go with a year contract? I'm on my fifth year with Verizon.

 | reply to dei283 dei2,
I just went to Verizon's sight, and used a random phone number for Willingoro to see if it qualified for DSL, which it did. Below is what is indicated the cost is for, month to month, and no commitment.
Month-to-Month Package $37.99/mo. with no commitment required. Modem included. Up to 3.0 Mbps/768 Kbps.
That is for the 3.0 Mbps/768 Kbps package! I'd call them back and tell them that's want you want. If you don't want to do that, sign up for a 1 year contract. If you decide to drop it before the end, the early termination fee is $79. That's only 2 months at the rate your paying now! You say you've been with them for 2 years. The amount of money you would've saved with a contract, would have been more than the $79 it would cost to cancel it.

For what its worth, I was told when my 1 year contract for 768/128 at $14.95/mo ended in Feb that there was no annual plan for that rate anymore and that I would go to month to month at $17.99. Then, when the actual contract period did expire, my bill didn't change for quite some time. Now I look at my most recent bill and see that they are charging $21.99/month. They wont let me have 3mbs due to underground cable issues. From the CO to the node 3 house down from me. Last time I called about going to 1.5 they gave me two ways to change speeds. One drop dsl for 30days then resign up at new speed . The second was to have a second line run once dsl is running on that drop dsl on the the first line. I don't get why they work that way at all.. My underground line is only a year old since the guy next door accidentally cut it gardening with his tractor. I am starting to wonder why when I call India they ask ever time if this is home or business DSl.. If its only 79$ to drop them I might have to ask what rate the will give me if i go for a year. |
|
 | dei2, As suggested by Jodokast96. I would contact Retentions/Presidential Appeals, and ask them why you are being charged more than the current monthly rate for 3Mb, when you only have the 768Kb plan, and always have. You might be able to use that fact to get them to change you to 1.5, without dropping existing DSL first. I would also want credit for the over charge. It has been my experience, "if you don't like the first answer you are given, call back and speak to someone else". Also ask to speak with a billing supervisor. You'd be surprised. vz @verizon.net | If you have had verizon dsl for awhile, you still might be on a frame relay circuit and locked into the old package system. What kind of modem do you have? I you have a westell or actiontec you are on ATM. If you have the older fujitsu, you are on frame relay. If you have a fujitsu you might want to try cancelling your service and ordering it again, which then they would give you a newer westell modem and put you on a westell circuit with westell pricing. |

I have an old bell Atlantic westell... What i have found out on pricing is.. When it was bell Atlantic DSL you had dial up as back up included in the price. Verizon Never killed off my dial up. Nor listed it on the billing only enhanced DSL Line (B).. So i have been paying for some kine of business DSL plan with dial up back up. I currently have a case with the BB filed as to why this was no Clarey listed on any billing. I have to call the state utilities commission next, see what law is about unclear billing. I have payed the same rate since Verizon bough bell Atlantic. I just tested the dail up and my same dsl password and user name works on the dail up system. This whole case could be come interesting. I never knew I had dial up as back up and they were charging me for it. Know wonder why ever time i called India they asked if this was business plan. |
