Verizon regardless of cdma, has to move to newer technology GSM forced operators to move to a MAP core based system, which supports all types of new technology. Verizon still uses an ANSI core. Either way Verizon is going to have to move to a more modern internal network. If Verizon did switch, they would support both networks until the conversion was complete.
