In this area TMO and Verizon seem to have the best coverage. Plus, I use the cell so little that on TMO prepaid, I can go a year for $100 initially, and probbly get a couple more years for $10 a year unless they change the "Gold Rewards" program (once you hit $100 in purchased airtime, all minutes are then good for a year, and roll over with each refill) |

From NY to NC and all over FL. I speak from personal experience though, I can't comment on every stretch of earth. I'm looking at getting an ic902 hybrid so I can have the best of everything.. Sprint cell coverage, iDen walkie, and Sprint EVDO.. all for 49.99 before my 15% corp discount.

Since then Sprint & Nextel boys MERGED the Sprint Nextel Network from Maine to Florida is a virtual LOCK on CDMA & WCDMA for both Voice and Data.
Some of us using both Sprint & Verizon Air cards & Spint & Nextel Cell phones have noticed that Verizon has more dropped service for us than Sprint now. I must say the Sprint ?Nextel Merger has changed my opinion of their Network. For the past 5 years I had strictly been a Verizon Wireless fan. Well no more. About to cut my Verizon unit off as the Nextel Sprint telecom package is the better deal for business.
Love that new Seirra Wireless aircard too. |

Actually the hybrid Nextel phones like the ic902 utilize the CDMA network for telephones calls and the Iden network for dc.. Long story short you wouldn't miss a beat switching from PCS to a hybrid phone, it's the same service plus some. As for moving or a Sprint calls it "network transfer" it's easy. As a word of advice if you want to get the phone for a good price buy it off the web with the 50$ invoice credit and open a new account on the Nextel side to get the 2yr discount on the hardware. You won't be able to do this much longer since everyone is being transfered to the same billing system.

| What about roaming? I don't see where it's included, or even allowed, on the hybrid plans. Overall, the maps look to me as if the coverage is much less than Sprint. Go to »sprint.com/index_c.html and compare between Sprint and Sprint Nextel Power Source (hybrid) coverage. |

| It's not as simple as sprint voice vs power source voice because the sprint map represents both sprint voice and data.. The DC map represents walkie and the power source map is all of the above. The requirements for the power source map are harder to meet.. If you want a real understanding of where you'll have voice and data available look at the sprint map, if you want to get an idea of where DC is available check the walkie map. It's just like I said but I hope this helps.

| If you say so. All I know is, Nextel doesn't work where I need to go. Plug in ZIP code 16041, and all you will see is white (no coverage) for Nextel and Power Source. When I'm up there, my Sprint PCS phone shows that I am roaming, sometimes on analog. |
