[TWC] Roadrunner (?comcast) houston - unstable/intermittent/slow

hi.. i have been experiencing internet problems since the last one day. i cannot sustain a download from any source. be it cyberlinks homepage, rapidshare or vnc. have cycled the modem and routers with no improvement. initially d/l speed will be fine for the first 20 seconds or so but will keep dropping until it becomes 15kb/s then finally stall with the error "connection reset by server".

Comcast has just taken over (happeing now) Time warner cable whose Road runner dsl high spped internet i am subcribed to. never had any problems such as this before (since before yesterday) and wondering if this is an effect of the transition.. what ever the case, am i the only person experiencing this?

its unlikely a hardware issue on my side. will wait a little more then call tech guys at their end.. in my experience, more often than not its an exercise in futility and takes more effort than than it really should to resolve even the simplest of things.

dsl report - latency 68ms, 517 dl/ 39 ul.

anybody else with similar problems?
any suggestions would be much appreciated.

regards,
asmd.

I am in the Southwest side of Houston.

I have been experiencing this for two weeks now ever since June 25 and I just found out that my next door neighbor is experiencing the same thing. The modem will be on for 10 minutes, and then down for 10-15 mins. The connection seems to be better at night.

For the past two days, it seems like it's getting better. The connection will be on, and then down for about two minutes, and back on for 10-15.

I have called Comcast about this. They did a scan of my modem and said that the connection is only 80%. And is sending someone over to look at it which means I'll have to be home to wait for him/her instead of being at work.

The only other explanation aside from the changeover from Time-Warner is the recent rainy weather that we had for the past two weeks.

On the way home from work, I noticed two comcast trucks in the neighborhood. Now it's up but it feels very slow, but when I do a speed test, this is what I get.

It was working great this morning so I guess it's fixed. But I'm supposed to be home to meet a technician like...now...but since it's working fine, what's the point? Hope I'm not standing someone up.

I heard they were switching the IPs over to comcast lately so they could be working on that in certain areas but i still have a RR IP so I can still say I have it

I'm also in SE houston... I've had downtime of almost 50 hours since "comcast" bradning changed a month or so ago... and I went from having 6mbps (of the 8 I paid for) down to 2... and kept getting worse.... one of the outages lasted for 25 hours... just a couple days ago it was out 30 minutes, and got a new IP on the comcast network (Which all the ad services now thought I lived in Oklahoma.. quite funny) ... but the download speeds suck.. 2 mbps at best... however the up speeds are now at 700 kbps... which is nice, but when I am pulling serious media, I need both sides... *sigh* Sadly I Don't think that Verizon has FOIS here... I really want something that stable and what I pay for.. I mean even "Basic" internet for comcast is SUPPOSED to by 6 mbps ... I'm still not even getting 3.

Really that sucks I have been quite lucky and suprised that I have only had one outage a few days ago around 2-4 am and now its been picture perfect. Verison FIOS is building in this area (League City) but I have no clue when they will come around in my neighborhood.

Uhhh.... I'm beginning to wonder how it is that so many "different" posters around here lately are using the exact same avatar ???

Mod Note: There was a thread about that in the appropriate (on topic) forum. This one ---> »Anonymous user avatar and name

Noticed my IP was switched yesterday morning...haven't had any problems so far. In fact, things are much faster. (League City near CCHS)

Appears that powerboost is being used here as well.

Just nitpicking: But whose phone lines does Road Runner use for their DSL Internet? I ask because DSL is a phone line HSI technology; and I am somewhat surprise that a cable company, such as Road Runner was offering DSL.
