My God, it has been terrible here in Sugar Land. Speed tests are fine, but latency is high, frequent connection error and pages are so slow to connect. Changed to my own DNS servers and still having issues. What the hell is going on?
There is a high likelihood that this thread is multiple issues. 1) New infrastructure since Comcast came in (Thread start in June). 2) Several isolated problems since then.

In general, it is probably good to start a new thread for an issue after several months have gone by. The data could be a completely different issue than the one you are having if you see large gaps in the discussion.

FWIW, "The internet is slow|broken" is not very helpful. Pings and traceroutes are. »Comcast High Speed Internet FAQ »How To Get Help!

Looks like the same problem I had, you can either call Comcast and follow the info given by hpasian above, or go to one of Comcasts stores and ask for a new modem.

Hi,

i know that this is kind of an old post... but it relates to my problem with the hsi.

for the past few weeks my comcast cable has been slow.. the upload is where is should be but the download ranges from 1000-3000. i am currently subscribed to the 6000/384 package.

speed tests:
»/testhistory/1475062/1e016
tweak test:
»/tweakr/block:···a=normal

Location: Houston/Sugar Land, Texas
Modem: Ambit DOCSIS Cable Modem - 2.25.1025
Router: Netgear WGR614v6 - V2.0.19_1.0.19NA
Firewall/Anti-virus: Kaspersky Internet Security (7.0.0.125)

any help would be great!

thanks

What price tier are you in for those speeds?

Was your previous service that fast? (if no, how fast was it?)

Hi again:

After troubleshooting nearly everything including taking my computer to a neighbors house and trying his setup, comcast came out and installed a new modem.

Speeds without a router are now 12 mbps.

Speed with a router is below

Where were you downloading the file from? I have only heard of the 2 GB limit on Usenet. Still though, TWC never had a limit...

Anyone in the Humble/Atascocita area getting powerboost yet? My speed tests have been fine (6300/360) but curious if anyone has speedboost working in this area?

FYI - Power cycling the modem hasn't done anything. Also, no clue what modem I have - it looks very generic and no name to be found...

Call comcast and get them to push the config file to your modem again. I have seen some modems (mostly Ambits) not get Powerboost or new speeds due to incorrect config file updates. They may also have to reprovision your modem if the headend doesn't want to update the modem.

I recommend you talk to comcast billing, do not waste your time with tech support. Every billing person I have talked to has fixed my problem in less than 15 - 30 minutes, and they are usually very nice and go out of their way to help.

I had considered that my router might be to blame (also a WRT54g) but my direct connection speed is not any better

Is anyone with an older Ambit 60194e-004 modem getting the full 6Mb connection speed?

using my Belkin router, i was able to get a perfect connection.

i don't think my comcast connection was to blame.. just think my linksys router was dying.

however, i would suggest trying a direct connection to your cable modem to verify this. worth a try, and helped me solve my problem.

cheers

hi everyone,

i had posted that i was having trouble with my connection from taylor lake village.

i went ahead and tried my connection without my Linksys router(WRT54G) and it was back to FAST speeds.

something up with the new comcast service and linksys routers???? about to try my belkin router out.

numerous tests showed that after a few minutes... the linksys just craps out and my tests run down to ~300kbps whereas a direct connection to my modem is getting ~6000kbps.

i suggest giving this a try

I am in The Woodlands and since the transfer it seems my speeds have dropped to about half or more of what they were before the transfer.

Just talked to comcast support and they said 2100 kbps, which was the speed I tested at at the testsites they recommended, was in the standard range.

Could anyone else in the woodlands please post their speed to see if its my issue or a wider problem?

Thanks Foz
