I'll be honest, I was lazy and I didn't read all the before posts so I dont' know if this was already said, if it was, sorry.

Comcast is acquiring all of houston texas from TWC this MONTH. The migration is taking place all month with different headends cutting over every week. Until about August 1st things "might" be hectic.

To be honest though, this has been the best migration yet.

If you are part of the migration to Comcast, I would expect that to happen at some point. I can't tell you when, but I would expect that, somewhere along the migration path you would need to switch to 'smtp.comcast.net'.

The problem is that I was told that my RR e-mail would work through the end of this year.

I was under the impression that your Road Runner email would be forwarded until the end of the year. I could be wrong, of course.

I'm using RR cable Internet in Houston.
I don't know if it's the rain and the thunderstorms, but I can't get any emails to go out from houston.rr.com. (MS Outlook or Outlook Express).
I keep getting the following message:
Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject: FW: Response email XYZ
Sent: 7/26/2007 5:01 PM

The following recipient(s) could not be reached:

['sender's email address'] on 7/26/2007 5:01 PM
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx [emailadress]... Relaying denied. IP name possibly forged [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]
Not funny - I do a lot of my work from home.

Solyluna,

Comcast took the SMTP (outgoing e-mail) server offline without any priot notice. This is unacceptable to me. I am waiting for my Uverse installation so I can dump Crapcast.

I thought Comcast was taking over from Road Runner.

The 'xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' is important information. Without it, all that anybody can do is offer a guess at what is happening.

Houston is in transition from Road Runner to Comcast. I seriously doubt that Road Runner wants to allow Comcast customers to use their mail servers. But you aren't getting a connection refusal in your mail client when attempting to submit the message, just a Delivery Failure Notice after you successfully submitted the message.

Who answers when you call support (i.e., Comcast, or Road Runner)?

Whose IP address are you assigned for your Internet connection (i.e., Comcast, or Road Runner)?

Have you ever received a transition email telling you to replace your Road Runner email address with a Comcast email address?

I wonder...
So I try Telnet:
Comcast isn't blocking my connection to their SMTP Message Submission Server. Well, not until I try to use it (they won't let me use it because I am not a Comcast customer). OTOH, I don't know how they are authenticating former Road Runner customers in transition to Comcast, but without a Comcast email address. I imagine that is an administrative nightmare.

OTOH, somebody identified the Road Runner Message Submission Server as, 'houston.rr.com'. I get a long delay, then a connection failed error when I try Telnet to that server:
There is something at that IP address, using that host name, but:
That is the proper response from a Message Submission Server which is not SMTP AUTH (as the Comcast MS servers are), but limiting connection only to a local IP address. My IP address is not Road Runner, and thus not local to Road Runner.

Your area is supposedly changing over to Road Runner. You need to figure out which of the Message Submission Servers you are supposed to be using: Comcast, or Road Runner.

I transitioned to Comcast yesterday but now I'm only getting about 2400Kbps down

I don't know whether to call them up or wait a few days to see if it gets better on its own.

I would wait one day after then I would be calling because I haven't had speed problems since I've been transitioned.

Northwest houston- have experienced problems with no internet and slow internet connection since the switch from TW to Comcast. Very poor quality service!

Foz

@comcast.net

I am in The Woodlands and since the transfer it seems my speeds have dropped to about half or more of what they were before the transfer.

Just talked to comcast support and they said 2100 kbps, which was the speed I tested at at the testsites they recommended, was in the standard range.

Could anyone else in the woodlands please post their speed to see if its my issue or a wider problem?

Thanks Foz

hi everyone,

i had posted that i was having trouble with my connection from taylor lake village.

i went ahead and tried my connection without my Linksys router(WRT54G) and it was back to FAST speeds.

something up with the new comcast service and linksys routers???? about to try my belkin router out.

numerous tests showed that after a few minutes... the linksys just craps out and my tests run down to ~300kbps whereas a direct connection to my modem is getting ~6000kbps.

i suggest giving this a try

utd09bry

@comcast.net

using my Belkin router, i was able to get a perfect connection.

i don't think my comcast connection was to blame.. just think my linksys router was dying.

however, i would suggest trying a direct connection to your cable modem to verify this. worth a try, and helped me solve my problem.

cheers
