gwion posted : Could these apps be calling out for their installer packages, over the network? It's not unheard of, at all, to download a very small installer script, that asks for the packages needed via the network connection. In that case, the firewall could be blocking an unknown application from network access, resulting in a "general failure" during install. Try setting up prompts, or just dropping the packet filters for a few minutes, while running the installer. Assuming, of course, that you trust the installer... ;) ...

The 2.x Kerios were simple packet filters, and most of us tweaked rulesets that provided maximum security and minimal interference with our usage habits. The 4.x iterations are suites, and employ, amongst other things, proxy filters and a rather basic level of sandboxing. There are a few possible issues, and the best way of troubleshooting something like this is to walk the firewall settings and logs, slowly. The reward is, long term, you understand your rules, and can proactively manage future issues like these. :)
--
Semper Eadem
--
...
geohei posted : Hi.

I notices that Kerio PFW 4.3.268 (for some reason) blocks the installation of 2 software packages, I'd like to put on my computer.

1. Fritz!Fax, a fax software from AVM. The installation process starts, and all stops without any error message. Kerio doesn't ask for any rule to be setup by the user. Also if I create a rule manually (allowing all traffic), it doesn't help. The installation aborts. Only exiting Kerio makes the installation resume!

2. More or less the same story with Dreamweaver 8.0.

I have a different computer which runs an older version of Kerio. On that one the installation of both software packages works fine.

I disabled/enabled more or less every function in Kerio ... without any success.

Anybody having any idea what could be wrong here?

Many thanks!
