dei283 posted : Well I am back from from vacation and have some fallow at to this week of hell with Verizon.
The stand is don't like the price drop us. I have filed the paper work with the BBB. The State of NJ does not consider Broad band a regulated utility.. So calling the utility commission did nothing. Now for the fun part. Verizon has been all over my street this week on ever big green panel they have. Nothing is better then it was. I have called Verizon every day this week about slow downs and PPOE drop outs from 2 pm to 12 am its bad. After those times everything runs fine. Their new stand is we don't grantee speed or connections. If your connected everything is fine. Speed and latency does not matter to us. I am talking to comcast now to work out a price for an underground cable install :)

dick white posted : The online prequalification "tool" is driven by Verizon's inventory database of line lengths. When a number is initially installed, its line length is noted in their master database. For DSL prequals, if the servicing central office has DSL equipment AND the line length in the database is less than 18,000 ft., the website returns a positive result for DSL availability. Then you read the fine print. It says the prequal is only an estimate, and you'll find out the truth only if you actually order. Those pay phones apparently are close enough to an equipped central office, hence the result you saw.

dw

twbartender posted : gower2352,

As much as I'd like to have it, I really don't need it. I was using dial-up until a year ago. DSL only started being offered in my area, about a year and a half ago. I tried to get it at that point, but the CO was incapable of handling any new customers. It took almost 6 months before I was able to order it. In February of this year, Fios became available in my area. I did subscribe to Fios TV using the other telephone line in my home. (Second Account) When it was installed, the wireless router, and battery back-up for the phone, were put in place. If I decide I need the speed, most of the equipment is already installed. But right now $14.95 a month sounds better then $39.99.

twbartender

twbartender posted : I had the $14.95 introductory plan. About a month before my contract was up I received the following email from Verizon:

Dear Verizon Customer,

Our records indicate that you currently subscribe to a Verizon Online DSL 768k Annual Plan and that your one-year commitment has been completed or will soon be completed. Your service will automatically continue, with no term commitment or early termination fee. If you have recently changed to a different plan, please disregard this notice.

If you are interested in other plans that may lower your rate or if you would like to see if you qualify for a higher-speed package, please go to www.verizon.net/greatrate or call 1-800-567-6789.

Verizon Online remains committed to ensuring that we remain the best value in Broadband and will continue to keep prices affordable to our customers. We appreciate your business and we look forward to continuing to serve you.

Verizon Online
If I had not seen that email, I would have been charged $21.99 a month. Verizon informed me I had to commit to another 1 year contract to get a cheaper rate of $19.99 a month. I found an online Verizon ad that stated, "I could keep my same low price", if I renewed my contract before my existing contract expired.

When I tried to renew at the $14.95 rate, Verizon didn't want to honor it, and tried to get me to switch to Fios, which is offered in my area. I told them I was happy with my DSL, at $14.95. Verizon told me they were not offering a DSL yearly plan in my area, because Fios was available. After many phone calls to Verizon, they said they would let me have a 1 year DSL contract, but the rate would be $19.99 a month. I kept referencing the online ad, but they refused to honor it. I kept arguing the point, and stood my ground. After many more phone calls, I finally I spoke to a level 2 Billing supervisor in "Fios" who said they would honor the $14.95 a month. It seems Fios, and DSL billing are being combined under fios billing in the NY metro area. Long story short: I still have the $14.95 plan. But the only way it could be done was to give me a monthly credit for the difference between $14.95 and $19.99. I didn't care how it was done, just so long as it was! Needles to say I haven't seen that, "keep the same low rate" ad anymore.
