| reply to borredo Re: [billing] New DSL Rate Hike
said by borredo :Verizon doesn't offer 1.5 package, only a 3.0 and a .768. Depends on distance.
When I list our second line which does not have DSL the Verizon locator states we can sign up for either 768/128 for $14.99 per month or 1500/384 $29.99 after a 6-month intro of $19.99. The 3000/768 package is not mentioned except in the fine print down at the bottom. If I plug in a nearer address it lists 3000/768 plan.
My understanding is the 1500/485 and 3000/768 are the same price. If you are under 11,000 feet you get 3000/768 over only 1500/384. It appears the web site is smart enough to access the distance database and quote 1500 or 3000 based on distance.

We are writing to inform you that your rate for your High Speed Internet package is changing to $33.99 per month.* Your new rate will take effect in no less than 30 days and you will see the new rate within two billing cycles. Your service will automatically continue, with no term commitment or early termination fee. If you are interested in other plans that may lower your rate, please go to www.verizon.net/greatrate or call 1-800-567-6789. Verizon Online remains committed to ensuring that we remain the best value in Broadband and will continue to keep prices affordable to our customers. Thank you for being a Verizon High Speed Internet customer. We appreciate your business and we look forward to continuing to serve you. Verizon Online *Additional surcharges, taxes and fees may apply. Your monthly price may be influenced by several factors including your speed selection, whether or not you sign up for a minimum term, whether your Verizon Online service is provided as part of a service bundle or package, and the premium online service you select. Then on 6/30/2007 I received this Email. Dear Verizon High Speed Internet Customer, We mistakenly sent you an email this week advising that the monthly price for your Verizon High Speed Internet service would increase. That message was sent to you in error, so please disregard it. Your price will not be increasing as that email indicated. We apologize for any confusion our prior email may have caused. Verizon Online It certainly looks like another case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. As a communications company, they appear to be anything but that!!!!! Pete I'm in ex-GTE land as well and got the first e-mail on 6/27/07, but not the second one. Are you on $29.95 month-to-month with no contract? |

| I beg to differ with you, there's no tier for 1.5. it's up to 3.0.....if all you can get is 1.5 you still pay for the 3.0 tier.. where do you see a 1.5 plan? |

| reply to borredo said by borredo :where do you see a 1.5 plan? As I posted the web site is smart enough to know if you already have DSL (says Congratulations) and what maximum speed you qualify for based on distance measurements.
You are correct residential 1500/384 and 3000/768 are the same price. You need to be under 11,000 feet to qualify for 3000/768. That does not mean there is no 1500/384 speed plan.

The e-mail was intended for those on $29.95 month-to-month plans (to get them to commit to yearly contracts or else pay a higher price), not for those already on yearly commitments. |

| reply to tschmidt Bottom line is I see nothing wrong with pricing what verizon sees fit for verizon. It's supply and demand and they're in the business of making money..
Cable is no different in their price raising/adjusting, worse in my opinion.
If that subscriber isn't satisfied with paying $29.95/$33.68 for 1.5 service he/she must explore other options. AS I stated, the 768/128 plan is available for less if money is a concern, or go to cable or dialup, or move closer to the CO. I think verizon plans are spelled out quite clearly. like it of not what is, is. Or anyone can call retention and go that route. Maybe they'll get a sympathetic ear?
Whining here on this board won't do anything. Appears like trolling to me..

| reply to Jerome925 I don't think it is regonal pricing. I have 3/768 never attained that by the way in almost a year now I am @ $29.99 on a year contract and got the email from customer care that my rate would go up to $33.99. Then the next day I got a email stating that it was a mistake.
I wouldn't mind going FIOS but Verizon doesn't offer it here yet. But I did put myself on the sngup for it when it becomes available in my area. I do think that they are forcing people to do the FIOS if it is available in heir area though.
Time will tell won't it |

| reply to Jerome925 Re: [billing] New DSL Rate Hike
I got this letter back in March telling me I would no longer get the $29.99 rate:
"Dear Verizon Online Member,
This letter is to inform you that we are no longer offering the Verizon High Speed Internet plan that provided you an approximately $8.00 discount off of our standard monthly rate of $37.99. To discuss our latest discounted offers, please contact your local Verizon business office.
Your Verizon High Speed Internet DSL service will not change, however, the new price for your service will be $32.99 per month, an increase of $3 per month from your previous rate. This is still a $5.00 discount off of our standard monthly rate for our month to month plan, and there is no term commitment required to keep this preferred monthly price.
Unless you switch to a different Verizon High Speed Internet plan, your new rate of $32.99 will become effective within the next 1-2 bill cycles, but no earlier than 30 days from the date of this letter.
In addition to our month to month plans, Verizon has several low-cost annual plan options available that may save you money. To find the pricing plan that is best for you, you can visit our website at www.verizon.net/greatrate, or call the Verizon Online customer service telephone number on your bill
We at Verizon remain committed to bringing you the best value in broadband, and we are working hard to offer different pricing plans that help keep prices affordable.
Thank you for being a Verizon High Speed Internet customer. We appreciate your business and we look forward to continuing to serve you.
Sincerely, Verizon Online"
When I called the local office they could only offer me FIOS, which I don't want, so I was billed at the $32.99 rate.
Then I saw an ad in my bill about a "bundle" discount. Since I already have the phone, dsl and our cel phones on one bill I called and inquired about getting a discount. They said I qualified and could get a $13 discount on dsl and $9.99 discount on the phone.
Unfortunately, they reduced my dsl from 1.5 to a 384 package . This was a mistake and after about an hour on the phone, they gave me the 3/768 speed. I have finally seen the discount on my latest bill (although they made a mistake with that too) but next bill should correctly reflect this.
If anyone has, or wants to bundle your bills onto one bill, you can get this discount. It is offered for one year.
Sincerely, Libra |

| It would be nice if when you called in, you could state that you want the new service to be effective as of your next scheduled billing date.
In this day and age of computers, this should be a simple task.
Somehow, Verizon does not get this. They want your changes to be effective immediately...so that their billing department can maximize on all of these so called "errors".
Sigh. |

| Just got off the phone with them...and although no special offers through billing, I was told that DSL in general is now an 18000 ft cap...not to mention that it looks like my distance was shortened. So 3.0 is finally available to me. But unless they are willing to offer me a better price, i am seriously thinking about cable....cause Lord knows, they are taking their sweet time getting FiOS up!....20 months and counting! |

| I got the email about a week ago and changed membership. Now that I know people can wheel & deal to get a better rate, I'm going to call them back. In case anyone reads this post, here's what really pisses me off about Verizon (I've been a loyal wireless customer for YEARS and DSL customer for a couple years at least)-after the switch, I got a mail letter today saying I'm going to be charged $ 5.50 because of my account change (called a 'service connection charge')! That's ridiculous!!!! $ 5.50 for someone to switch me from month-to-month to yearly? Anyone remember the email a while back regarding Verizon letting us know a certain tax will be removed from our billing so we'd be saving a couples bucks...only to be replaced by a new verizon fee due to 'increased costs in upkeep of phone/dsl lines'?? Yea, I think someone must've threatened a lawsuit because about a week later they cancelled that decision. Verizon is definitely a crook! But their performance is good, so I'm torn. |

| Here's a good question -
Let's assume that a subscriber chooses NOT to use their Verizon e-mail address (I know plenty that do this).
Does Verizon consider these people notified because they sent them an e-mail?
Does Verizon have any obligation to inform its subscribers that their service will be changing by sending them information by regular snail mail (e.g., in their bill)?
Thanks. |
