Re: [billing] New DSL Rate Hike

Here's a good question -

Let's assume that a subscriber chooses NOT to use their Verizon e-mail address (I know plenty that do this).

Does Verizon consider these people notified because they sent them an e-mail?

Does Verizon have any obligation to inform its subscribers that their service will be changing by sending them information by regular snail mail (e.g., in their bill)?

Thanks.
It's in the TOS that it's the customer's responsibility to visit the website and check their VZ email for service notifications.

Even if you don't use an address, it's always a good idea to check it, since all providers (especially hosting companies) send stuff via their internal networks that doesn't always make it out to third-party addresses you might tell them to use. It's really not a big deal...I do this for dozens of client domain hosting accounts I manage...just plug the account into an email client like Outlook and that's that.

Yeah, you'll probably get some additional spam even if you don't use the addy, but likely a lot less than an address you actively use.

I thought I'd bump this topic to see if anyone else has something to say about it.

I'm actually waiting for FiOS here...so I *may* not do anything about the price increase...just to save on the billing hassles.

Thanks.

AT&T dsl at the same speed has been at 19 and 24 p/m...
The at&t Yahoo! HSI Pro (3008kbps/512kbps) plan is now $24.99 per month. The $19.99 per month is for Express (1536kpbs/384kbps). I am coming to the end of a one year contract, paying $17.99 per month for Pro, and expect the price to rise to $24.99 per month; assuming AT&T doesn't start jacking the prices around the way that Verizon is now doing.

If you are a current customer and got in on this offer, don’t forget to check your billing statement to make sure you get the correct discount.

I called Retention on June 28 and got in on the 1-year plan with $19.95 for 6 months then 29.95 for 6 months. The CSR said my 1-year plan would start in June, and I’d get refunded back credit of $10 for June.

Well, of course that isn’t what happened.
I did get billed the correct amount for July.

But my billing statement shows a rate adjustment for 3 days in June giving me the new rate and discount for 3 days in June, June 28-30, not the entire month of June. So I got a discount of $1.00 instead of $10.00.
I’ll be calling them tomorrow.

Mine has been $29.95 since I've had it. And just recently it dropped it $24.99. Hey I'm not complaining. But I believe it is because I get everything through verizon (dsl, directv, unlimited calling). Before I had directv through them my bill always read:
DSL: $37.95 - $8.00 bundle discount = $29.95

Since I've had DTV through them my bill has read:
DSL: $37.99 - $13.00 triple bundle discount = $24.99

Bundling all 3 services with verizon was the best move I've ever made. So for those of you with the rate increases, it is simple.

Bundle DSL + Verizon Freedom Essentials for $29.95. Bundle all services and get $24.99.

I noticed too that my DSL bill was upgraded to $37.95 from 32.95, and yes i was pissed because I didn't receive or noticed any mail from Verizon, or printed on my monthly bill.
yes i was just out of contract. I also noticed that caller ID went from $7.50 to $8.58, so I dropped that right away.

I wanted to switch to Voicewing, so try to save on Taxes too, but was told by the rep, I won't save any taxes, so she just droped my long distance all together and won't charge me for not having long distance on my bill, since now Verizon, chargers for now having their LD on your bill. So anyways I had her sign me up for 1 more year at the cheaper rate.

I received the email (below) from Verizon after previously telling me about my pending price increase. I did call billing to express my dissatisfaction right away as soon as I received the e-mail regarding the price increase.

Dear Verizon High Speed Internet Customer,

We mistakenly sent you an email this week advising that the monthly price for your Verizon High Speed Internet service would increase. That message was sent to you in error, so please disregard it. Your price will not be increasing as that email indicated. We apologize for any confusion our prior email may have caused.

AFAIK, people who were already on a yearly contract got sent that correction e-mail since it wouldn't apply to them. I haven't heard of anyone who was on $29.95 month-to-month get that correction e-mail.

Just got my last credit card statement. Verizon charge was $30.98. Called to find out why, and they said my contract was up (thought I still had another month?). Asked if I wanted to renew, said yes, and that it would be $29.99. BTW, I never got a single one of those emails.

Wow, and Since I got back from vacation my line noise margin is down from 14.5dB (448/1792) to 5.0dB, even at the NID for $33 month with the price increase.

It has been steady for almost 4 years and now it's gone to crap all of a sudden. Syncing at 160/896, with 2-3x latency. I don't even know if I want to make the call. I figure I'd probably get bumped down to 768/128 at best... Are they trying to force me into FiOS? It has been newly installed here.

I checked my Verizon email for the first time in probably 6 months yesterday and discovered the rate increase message...to $38.99! Hasn't happened yet (my contract is up mid-August) so I plan to call this afternoon and hopefully talk them into giving me something more reasonable. I tried to call last night, but the first guy I spoke to apparently couldn't do anything once I told him it was dry-loop DSL...

That must explain the difference in price increases. Here, dry-loop is $5/month more. So $33.99 + $5 = $38.99

Well, I just called in and got the $19.99/$29.99 promotional rate.

Let's see if they screw up the billing!

It was funny...they still thought I had the 768/128 service!

@verizon.net

Well, I used to have the 3m plan for $29.99 with a yearly contract and when I renewed it for another year a few months ago, they started charging me $31.99 per month. Even though on their site it said that the charge would remain $29.99. Never got any emails about them raising their price either.

Would jump straight to cable if Cablevision would not cap their upload speeds and cost $30 instead of $50, but as of now, Verizon is still the better deal for me.

I ended up canceling my Verizon home phone and DSL. I was getting charged for not using long distance even though I wasn't on a plan. I went to Earthlink and got 8mb/1mb DSL and unlimited local and long distance for $69 with taxes. I wanted the faster speed and Verizon wasn't offering it yet. FIOS will probably never happen here and if it does hopefully my contract with Earthlink will be up. I also got that e-mail the rest of you got and that helped my in my decision to drop Verizon.
